Psychology

Year 12

Prerequisites None, although strong literacy skills are an advantage. Description This course is designed to introduce students to the study of the human mind and behaviour. Students will have the opportunity to study human behaviour through the study of psychological topics like criminology, conformity, motivation and attraction. Students will also learn about ethical research and will conduct their own psychological experiment. Psychology is ideal for those students who are interested in learning about how and why people think and act the way they do. Assessment This course contributes towards NCEA Level 2, with all 21 credits internally assessed.

The following Achievement Standards will be assessed:

• AS 91845 (3 credits – internal) Examine debates in Psychology • AS 91844 (6 credits – internal) Examine different psychological approaches used to explain a behaviour. • AS 91846 (4 credits – internal) Conduct psychological research with guidance. • AS 91847 (5 credits – internal) Examine how theory is used in fields of psychological practice. • AS 91848 (3 credits – internal) Examine ethical issues in psychological practice.
