Mathematics and Statistics Core 3 Students build on the knowledge and skills developed in the Year 10 mathematics programme by extending their understanding of algebra, functions, geometry, statistics and probability through meaningful real-world context. They investigate relationships using equations, graphs, and data, develop logical reasoning through both Euclidean and coordinate geometry, and strengthen their ability to solve unfamiliar problems using a range of mathematical and statisitcal techniques. Througout the course, students continue to make connections between different areas of mathematics while developing the confidence and fluency needed for the second semester and future NCEA study.
Prep Mathematics and Statistics This course prepares studnets for the academic demands of senior Mathematics and Statistics by bringing together the essential concepts from both disciplines into one integrated programme. Students deepen their understanding of algebra through indices, algebraic fractions, functions, quadratics, simultaneous equations and inequalities, while extending their statistical reasoning through statistical literacy, investigations, probability, data science, and computational thinking using authentic data sets. Classical geometry are further developed to strengthen logical reasoning and spacial problem solving. By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge, skills and confidence to choose the Year 12 pathway that best suits their strengths, interests, and future goals.
