service. PR Transpo will operate on 12 fixed routes, with several posted stops in all eight municipalities. The regional transit service will operate

Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is no Sunday bus service and also no service on specific statutory holidays like Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Everyone can ride for free for the next two weeks on Prescott-Russell’s new public transit service, which rolled out October 21. “We want people to try out PR Transpo and to adopt it,” said Isabelle Peladeau, PR Transpo project manager, during the Wednes- day official launch of the new regional public transit service. Residents will be able to ride PR Transpo buses at no charge until November 15. After that, the regular fare system will be in effect. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) set up the regional transit program through its economic development and tou- rism department, after success in getting a $2 million provincial grant to support public transit initiatives. The UCPR is one of two rural regions that Asucceeded in getting full provincial support funding for a public transit program. “This program is truly an incredible under- taking for a small and rural municipality like Prescott-Russell,” said Warden Robert Kirby. “This is a pilot project,” said Peladeau. “Every three months we will look at how the routes are working, which ones are not, we will promote the program, and then make changes as needed.” The UCPR has contracted with Leduc Bus Lines to provide the regional transit

—photo Gregg Chamberlain
