Three roads to be improved
Kilmar, Bay and Avoca roads. The Kilmar job will be financed by the $500,000 left over from a $2,350,000 federal-provincial grant the municipality received to improve a sec- tion of the Kilmar Road. The municipality ought to be able to count on more funds from the Québec gov- ernment, Mayor John Saywell said at a re- cent meeting. Argenteuil MNA Roland Rich- er has indicated that the municipality will get $50,000 from his discretionary budget,
more than the usual allocation of $30,000. “Insanity” The condition of roads is always a topic of discussion at council sessions. But at the last regular meeting, the main point of conten- tion was how improvements were planned. During a long and heated question pe- riod, one citizen, Robin Andrews, stated it was “absolute insanity” that the municipal- ity did not have a long-term road improve- ment plan and budget.
When Councillor Noël Baril said that spending was based on available funds, Andrews shot back: “That is gunslinging.” Saywell agreed with Andrews, saying he has never seen a long-term plan. “To- tal confusion” reigns, said the mayor. “We don’t know who does what.” Baril insisted: “We do know where we are going.” He reiterated that the municipality had to continue to upgrade equipment and not increase debt.
