Diner en Blanc and Hammurabi’s Code

This past spring, my family and I spent a wonderful four days in Paris, France. We explored the beautiful city, went to the Eiffel Tower, and visited the Louvre museum, where Hammurabi’s Code is housed. This towering black stone is the oldest recorded set of laws in the world!

tablecloth, and real dishware. This interesting tradition was started by a man named François Pasquier, who, in 1988, hosted a picnic in Paris’ Bois de Boulogne park with a group of friends. To make it easier to find each other, they decided to all wear white. The dinner was such a success that they held it year after year, inviting more and more friends every time. Their guest list eventually grew to include over 10,000 people.

Our trip reached its peak in the 30th anniversary of the Diner en Blanc. This is a giant dinner where thousands of people gather to share a meal together — all while dressed in white. In addition to the dress code, guests are expected to bring their own small table and chairs, a white

Traditionally, Diner en Blanc is by invitation only, but this year, they opened the event to the public for the first time. Over 17,000 people from all over the world traveled to Paris and met at 100 locations across the city. At 6:30 p.m., a text message went out with the exact location of the dinner. There was no charge to

participate, and there were no corporate sponsorships. This was just 17,000 people getting together for the hell of it. We sat with a huge crew from Sydney, Australia, including the 1996 Australian women’s Olympic rowing team!

Diner en Blanc was an incredible experience, the perfect end to our time in Paris.

How Much Sunshine Is Too Much?

KEEP YOUR FAMILY SAFE

To many

To many people, summer is all about heading outside to enjoy

Will you have to bring your own? What’s the best way to step out of the sun for a few minutes? Wearing sunscreen and protective clothing are great ways to shield yourself from UV rays, but it’s important to avoid being in direct sunlight for long periods. Taking a break from the sun gives your body the time it needs to recuperate and helps prevent sunburn and heatstroke. Common Myths About Sun Exposure Many people think that a tan is better than a sunburn, but the result of tanning is still sun damage. When your skin tone changes due to the sun, regardless of whether it tans or turns red, it’s a result of the epidermis reacting to damage caused by UV rays. Both are symptoms of harmed skin. While vitamin D is important, the sun does not contribute to its creation as much as you might think. Doris Day, a New York City dermatologist, explains that if your skin were to constantly produce vitamin D from being in the sun, it would reach toxic levels. Vitamin D is the only vitamin that your body

the weather. But getting too much sun can be dangerous. To have a fun-filled summer with your family this year, remember that it’s essential to protect yourself from harmful UV rays. Cover Up Covering your skin is one of the best ways to avoid skin damage. Wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeved shirts, and long pants or skirts can protect your skin from direct exposure to UV rays. While this tactic protects you from the sun, it offers poor defense against the heat. So, if you opt for cooler attire, it’s important to cover all exposed skin with a copious amount of sunscreen. Be sure to reapply every two hours for maximum skin protection. Spend Less Time in the Sun If you’re planning to spend a significant amount of time in the sun, consider your environment. Will there be plenty of shade? Our firm has the privilege of representing many unique individuals who bring their talents and passions to the world. One such person is a young woman named Asia Anastasia who, after recovering from the injury we represented her for, went on to record her first album, “Daisy Dreamin’.” Raised in the Georgia countryside, Asia is a self-taught artist who writes, records, mixes, and produces her own music. After getting her start performing at weddings as lead singer of her family band, Asia began to perform solo, gaining a following for the videos she uploaded to YouTube. “Life offers a lot of knowledge and wisdom in the situations it presents you with,” Asia has said. “It’s a lot to write about.” In this case, “a

HOW TO HANDLE DOG BITES IN GEORGIA What Is the ‘One Bite’ Rule?

WORD SEARCH

Cases involving dog bites are difficult for a lot of reasons. Being attacked by an animal, whether it’s a strange dog or one you’ve met many times before, can be traumatic. Many people develop a fear of all dogs after suffering or witnessing a violent attack. And then there are the emotional struggles that can arise when a victim is familiar with the dog or the dog owner. Some people may hesitate to take legal action after a dog bite, particularly if the dog belongs to someone they are close to. They worry the dog may be put down if they pursue legal action after a bite, but remember, even just one bad bite can turn into a medical nightmare. Regardless of what happens to the dog, you will need help paying for medical bills, lost wages, and potential plastic surgery. You can only do that if you take legal action and contact a personal injury lawyer with dog bite experience in order to see your case through. There are some complicated legal matters surrounding dog bites and attacks, especially in the state of Georgia. In regard to dog attacks, Georgia has what is called the “one bite” rule. Essentially, dog owners cannot be held liable for a first-time bite if their dog has no history of aggressive behavior. However, the “one bite” part of the name is something of a misnomer. A dog doesn’t have to physically attack someone to be considered dangerous; an attempted attack is enough to put a dog owner on notice and establish liability. It’s also worth noting that dog owners can be held liable for breaking the law if their dog is outside a fenced area or off-leash in a city or county that has fencing or leash laws. Proving the owner broke the law or that they were previously aware of their dog’s aggression before an attack can be difficult, so it’s important to have the support of a knowledgeable legal team. Dog attacks are scary. If you have been injured in an attack, you should seriously consider contacting the experienced dog bite attorneys at Simon Law Firm. i What Happens in Paris 1 Battling the Summer Sun! Something to Sing About 2 Blue Cheese Buffalo Dogs and Celery Slaw What You Need to Know About Dog Bites 3 Songs of the Summer in History 4 Music is always changing, but one thing’s for certain: There will always be a “song of the summer” when the heat starts rolling in. To be crowned the true song of the season, a track must be everywhere, stuck in everyone’s heads — whether they like it or not — and have a certain je ne sais quoi that makes it part and parcel of the warmer months. Here are two summer slammers (and three contemporary options) that typify this vital trend. 1963: The Beach Boys, ‘I Get Around’ There’s a good reason that when Brian Wilson was asked whether there were any great summer songs that he didn’t write, he answered “No, not really.” Though there are certainly better jams from the Beach Boys’ tangled, complicated career, “I Get Around,” “Fun Fun Fun,” and their other hits from the early ’60s virtually wrote the blueprint for future songs of the summer. They’re sunny, annoyingly catchy, and filled with youthful exuberance.

international success and branched out on her own to become the de facto world queen of pop, it seemed Beyoncé was destined to change the musical landscape. Though she’d secured numerous smash hits before, “Crazy in Love” was, to many, the calling shot that signaled her eventual ascent to the throne. With her thrilling, powerful vocals backed by enormous horn samples and undeniable hypeman Jay-Z, it’s arguably the apex of contemporary pop. NME even goes so far as to call it “the best song of the millennium.” Today’s Contenders This year’s contenders seem to be slow out of the gate, making it difficult to declare the victor just yet, but there are some promising options. First, we have Drake’s “Nice for What,” which is riding high on the Billboard charts but isn’t quite as sing-along friendly as others (though his “One Dance” dominated the summer of 2016). Other
