Momentum surge in downtown Erie benefts Mercyhurst graduates By Deborah W. Morton

Colleagues said it couldn’t be done, but Jeremy Young did it anyway.

For someone who defed the odds by relocating from the busy Beltway to Erie’s downtown in the early stages of what has become a bona fde renaissance, grit counts. Duquela, a native of the Bronx in New York, started working at FRC just weeks after graduating last May with a degree in Business. He counts himself fortunate to be there. “I feel downtown Erie has a great atmosphere and is trending upward,” he said. “There are more opportunities He also feels Mercyhurst prepared him well, saying, “With my experiences in Residence Life as an RA and in the classrooms of the Walker College of Business, I’ve learned to conduct myself like a professional both inside and outside of the ofce setting.” Bordon studied Political Science and Strategic Communications at Mercyhurst as an undergraduate. An international student from Paraguay, she also earned a graduate degree from Mercyhurst’s Organizational Leadership program in 2019. presenting themselves as new establishments are being built.”

A 2017 Hospitality Management graduate, Malloy said, “Choosing to work as an inside sales representative for Federal Resources Corporation is one of the most rewarding decisions that I could have made to launch my professional career thus far. Federal Resources fosters a refreshing, positive work environment that allowed me to seamlessly immerse myself in the IT sales industry in a short amount of time while having no prior experience. “My time as an undergrad at Mercyhurst provided me with a solid and versatile foundation that I can easily build upon. He moved the headquarters of his multimillion-dollar technology company, Federal Resources Corporation (FRC), from northern Virginia to downtown Erie two years ago. In that short time, his company has experienced enviable growth, and gone from a mere seven employees to more than 60, 12 of whom are situated in the FRC headquarters in the Cashier’s House, a three-story Greek Revival building at 417 State Street. Three of those new hires are Mercyhurst graduates: Guillermo Duquela and Quentin Malloy, inside sales; and Dalma Bordon, marketing/HR support. “They’re all ambitious self-starters who have had to learn this industry from scratch,” said Young, whose company specializes in providing IT modernization solutions and services that focus on cyber security, cloud, data analytics, and infrastructure to the United States government. “They’ve come from Mercyhurst very well prepared, they work hard, and they have grit.”
