These Ducks aim to score the Big Time

almost every other team in their U15 compe- titive division in Ottawa when they crossed sticks during the CBC Play On tournament. Ottawa’s All-StateMidgets clipped them8-7 in the finals despite a strong second-half rally by the Ducks. But that second-place finish in the Ottawa tournament still earned them, with the help of their coach Pete Lavictoire and assistant coach Johnny Fidaoui, a shot at the national street hockey tournament in Lethbridge, Alberta, later in the year. They get to play as one of the top teamsfrom the Ottawa region. Now all they need to do is get themoney together, and get a little more experience. That’s where their invitational tournament comes into play. It answers both needs. «We can do some fundraising,» said Corey Camirand, one of the assistant captains, «and also to let others get to have the same kind of experience we had.» They are getting some sponsorship help from Susan Brazeau, their team manager, who is accepting registrations for the tour- nament at Toppings, the burger restaurant she owns and operates on Laurier Street. Teams wanting information on signing up can also email to slbrazeau@sympatico.ca or check out the Mighty Ducks Street Hoc- key Team page on Facebook. Deadline for registration is July 20. Team Captain Byron Gagné-Lavictoire had one last thing to say for the team. It’s the Mighty Ducks motto. «Ducks fly together!»

The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim may need to watch out. They’ve got some potential competition for their NHL name up north across the U.S.-Canada border. TheMighty Ducks of Clarence-Rockland is a hard-charging, puck-shooting, goal-sco- ring compact squad of ball hockey players who were so inspired by the Disney movie about an underdog kids hockey team that they decided if it was good enough for Ana- heim’s contribution to the National Hockey League, then it’s more than good enough for them as a winning ball hockey team when they signed up to play in CBC’s Play On ball hockey tournament in Ottawa last May. «As kids we always watched that movie,» said Brandon Brazeau, one of the team’s mid-line players, adding they all have their favourite scenes and dialogue. And it is true. These Ducks can and will fire out quotes at the drop of an invitation. They love theMighty Ducks, they love being Mighty Ducks, and they love street hockey, or box hockey somuch, they want to share that passion with others. So they are organizing their own street hockey tournament for the July 25 weekend at the Canadian Internatio- nal Hockey Academy campus. There’s another reason for the tourna- ment. It’s also a fundraiser for the team, because the Mighty Ducks of Clarence- Rockland outshot, outscored, and outplayed

They are theMighty Ducks of Clarence-Rockland and they invite any and all challengers to a nice «friendly» game of street hockey in an Open Invitational tournament they are hosting over the July 25 weekend at the Canadian International Hockey Academy campus. Ready to cross sticks are : Jeremy Fidaoui (front left), Brandon Brazeau, Byron Gagné-Lavictoire, Corey Camirand (rear left), and Jason Cossette.
