Community Garden & Farmer’s Market at Crofton Library

Crofton Concert Series Alexander Peters (country-alternative) Thursday, March 14 at 7 pm Mama’s Black Sheep (country, rock, blues, pop)

While the Crofton Library is well known for an endless supply of books, exciting programs and helpful resources, the branch’s outdoor space also offers an opportunity to connect people with nature and each other. Working with library staff and volunteers, nonproft FarmUnity , created a 4,000 square foot community garden last year at the Crofton Library. Dedicated volunteers contributed their time and energy to help plant, water and harvest the community-built garden. Produce was then distributed to a clinic that helps Medicaid patients, giving them the opportunity to add healthy and homegrown produce to their diets. Library customers also benefited from the garden and found free produce inside the library!

"The garden is the product of Crofton community member Jitendra Rathod's dedication to making the world a better place," said Crofton Library Manager Rachel Troianos Halbig. "He wanted a way to bring the community together and support under resourced residents. The garden has energized the community while also supporting those in need." FarmUnity believes that everyone can benefit from growing their own food and connecting with nature. If you are interested in volunteering, please email farmunityusa@gmail.com . The community garden at the Crofton Library is expected to be back this year starting in May. Join us Thursday, May 23 at 6 pm to celebrate the start of the planting season with crafts, STEM activities and more! Another great way to eat well is by attending the Crofton Farmer’s Market located in the parking lot of Crofton Library. Stop by on Saturdays, March 9 and 23, April 6 and 20 and May 11, 18 and 25 from 9 am to 1 pm for an assortment of produce, meat, bread, specialty foods, crafts, food trucks and more. For more information about the Farmer’s Market, visit croftonfarmersmarket.com .
