158 years of fun at the Russell Fair

The 158 th edition of the Russell Fair was held fromThursday, September 8, to Sun- day, September 11, attracting hundreds of people from the area for four straight, jam-packed days of activities for the whole family. The festivities were kicked off onWednes- day, September 7, with the opening ceremo- nies while the gates to the fairgrounds were open to all onThursday night, allowing kids and grownups alike to go on the numerous rides that were installed throughout the weekend. Activities carried on into Friday with various agricultural exhibits followed by the Super Gymkhana western games. The evening was later capped off with shows by tribute bands Absolute Journey and Fleet- wood Mac Mania. The antique equipment and classic auto and bike shows were held on Saturday, as well as many representations of Natural horsemanship demonstrations and the fa- mous Ultimutts Stunt Dog Show . Driv- ers from around the region were given the chance, both in individual and teamevents, to crash into each other and destroy their cars in a fun and competitive way. The last day of the fair was kicked off with a pancake breakfast at the arena, sponsored by Giant Tiger. Other activities during the day included the Fall cutting horse competition, show by the Russell men’s choir as well as the farm and lawn tractor pulls that were held in the afternoon. In addition to the numerous different rides, there were various other activities organised at the fair during the weekend such as a petting zoo, face painting and pedal go-karts. Shows by Mystic Drumz andmagi- cian John Pert were also presented at the kids’ tent.
