2023 APEGA Annual Report

Our Volunteers

A sincere THANK YOU to our volunteers—almost 1,600 strong!

We rely on you to fulfil our mission to safeguard public welfare and proactively regulate the engineering and geoscience professions. You help us serve the community in ways that wouldn’t otherwise be possible, whether you’re performing essential regulatory work on our committees or boards or connecting with young people through our K–12 and university outreach programs. By giving back to your professions—and Albertans—your generous commitment makes an impact today, tomorrow, and beyond. Cybersecurity and privacy training for volunteers We launched a cybersecurity and privacy training program for statutory board and committee volunteers in 2023 to strengthen our regulatory framework. The training equips volunteers with the knowledge and skills to protect APEGA’s digital information and networks from potential threats and attacks.

Did you know? APEGA strives to have diverse representation among our volunteers. Among last year’s volunteers:

•34 per cent were women •15 per cent were students and members-in-training •13 per cent had more than 20 years of experience as a professional member

“Serving on the organization that governs us is an important service to both the professions and the public. It’s part and parcel of our code of ethics: we’re here to serve the public.” – John Nicoll, P.Eng., FEC, FGC (Hon.) APEGA volunteer since 1996
