God in Christ “In him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily” (Col. 2:9). God took His glory, and beauty, and help, and put them down on the level of human helplessness. He says in ef fect: “I have put in Jesus all I am, and now I give Him to you, so that you can claim Him for your own.” You have the right to draw from Him the utmost need of your heart. —A. B. Simpson. + + + The Hope For America i “Come and let us return unto the Lord” (Hos. 6:1). Sir Philip Gibbs, the brilliant war correspondent, declared that “all our boasted advances in scientific adven ture and discovery will be our nation al undoing, unless we recover our re ligious faith.” —Herbert Lockyer. + + + A Secret Revealed “Rest in the Lord, and wait patient ly for him” (Psa. 37:7). The secret of peace of heart is to “hope and quietly wait for the salva tion of the Lord” (Lam. 3:26). How we need to learn that in these days when the nervous tempo of modern life tries our patience and strength! “Hope”—look up for the display of God’s power. “Quietly wait” — per haps His help is delayed and prayers are not immediately answered. Never theless, wait patiently and quietly, ex pecting the sure answer in God’s own time, not yours. . * —Brethren Evangelist. + + + Divine Skill Needed “A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto vic tory” (Matt. 12:20). It is a serious moment when there is brought to a surgeon a case-on the skillful treatment of which a life de pends. It is a far more serious mo ment when a human life is put into one’s hands to be cured of its faults, comforted in its sorrow, or to have its heart’s wounds healed. Only Christ can teach us how to deal with human lives in need and sorrow. He never breaks a bruised reed. He will give us skill in dealing with hurt lives. —J. R. Miller.
Through the Waiting Time “Therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you” (Isa. 30:18). Let us believe to see God’s goodness; and let us wait on the Lord until He so strengthens our heart that there is no waver in our position of faith; then shall He pour upon us the fulfill ment of all we have believed for. Let us be “followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the prom ises” (Heb. 6:12), and let us never be impatient over God’s delays for He waits that He may be gracious, and through the waiting time He is able to enrich and perfect the blessing which He longs to bestow upon us. —The Life of Praise. + + + Power in Abundance “Behold, I give unto you power . .. over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19). What a glorious promise is this. As we are willing to be wholly Christ’s', and go out and face the enemy preach ing His gospel, and exalting His name, He will fulfill to us all that He promises . . . Not but that persecu tions, trials, and death itself may come to us, while In the service of Christ, but what hurt can they do us? —Record of Christian Work. + + + Victory Our Worry "Casting all your care upon him for he careth for you” (1 Pet. 5:7). Let us give up our work, oqi thoughts, our plans, ourselves, our lives, our loved ones, our influence, our all, tight into His hand, and then, when we have given all over to Him, there will be nothing left for us to be troubled about, or to make trouble about. —J. Hudson Taylor. + + + The Secret of Joy “The redeemed of the Lord shall . . . obtain gladness and joy” (Isa. 51: 11 ). He who calls in secret on his God, who delights to meditate on the words of the Most High, whose soul is given up to Christ—such a man must have an overflowing heart; and as his heart is, such will his life be. —Selected.
Wonderful Companion "This is the day which the Lord lath made; we will rejoice and be ;lad in it” (Psa. 118:24). May we start each day with a jrayer that life and lip shall glorify 3od. The Christian should walk with God, and talk with God. We can keep in step with Him, and God can be glorified as we go about humble daily tasks, just as well as out in con spicuous places of service. If the aim is truly to glorify God, it will be found that He will really keep the heart singing in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. There are no dull moments for those who walk with God—He is a wonderful companion. —Anonymous. “Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee” (Psa. 37:34). When we see how the wicked seem to flourish, how they appear to go on without hindrance, we are prone to forget that there is One who notes not only their ungodly deeds, but also their sinful thoughts. Let us not seek vengeance, nor fret ourselves because of evil doers. He will care for them and their deeds. —Moody Monthly. + + + Fidelity’s Reward “Well done . . . thou hast been faith ful . . . I will make thee ruler over many things” (Matt. 25:23). No service is/ too small to attract the attention of the Master. Did you ever try to see the small, simple serv ices as God must look at them? They are necessary if His total plan would be completed, and He may choose to let you have a tiny place in order to make a large place possible for you in the future. —The Sunday School Times. + + + Divine Records
