4. “ But a certain Samaritan .. .came where he was" (vi 33). Absent treat ment . avails little when men . are bleeding to death. The immediate touch of a loving hand Is needed. The attitude of the paid priest and professional Levite will not help men vyhose needs are desperate. If we are to win them to Christ, we must go with the h e a l i n g message to the places where they are. Think of Him who came to us in our sin and took our place on the Cross! For the Children S h o w in g O u r L o v e F o r G od L u k e 10:25-37 MEMORY VERSE: "Love one an other, as I have loved you” (John 15:12). AIM: To teach that one way of show ing our love for God is by showing our love for one another. APPROACH: Have you ever known a boy or girl who said that he or she loved the Lord Jesus and yet hated a boy or girl of another color, or one who lived in another neighborhood? One day when the Lord Jesus was upon the earth, a lawyer asked Him what to do to inherit eternal life. When Jesus asked the man what God’s Word said in answer to that question, the lawyer replied: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy s o u l , and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.” When Jesus told him that his answer was correct, the lawyer asked: “And who is my neighbour?” In answer to this question, Jesus told one of the most beloved stories in the Bible. LESSON STORY : As a man was go ing from Jerusalem to Jericho, he fell among thieves who took away his clothing and wounded him so badly that he was half dead. As he lay by the roadside, a priest saw him, but he passed by on the other side of the road rather than helping him. Later another man came and looked at him, but he did not help the wound ed man either. Finally, a Samaritan found the man and had love for him. He washed the man’s wounds and carefully bound them up and then while he walked, he lét the wounded man ride on his donkey to an inn, or hotel. When the Samaritan left the inn the next day, he paid the keeper for the care of the sick man and said: “Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will r e p a y thee” (Luke 10:35b). When the Lord Jesus had finished this story, He turned to the lawyer and asked which of these was neighbor to the man who fell among thieves. When the lawyer replied, “He that shewed mercy on him,” Jesus said “Go, and

do thou likewise.” The priest and the other traveler claimed to love God, but showed no love for a wounded man. The Samaritan showed his love for God by loving his neighbor. God’s Word says, “Love one another, as I have loved you” (John 15:12). These were the words of the Lord Jesus to those who loved Him. If we love the Saviour we will love others, and to do this is one of the greatest ways of showing our love for Him. LESSON FOR OCTOBER 14 The Home Fostering Christian Ideals LESSON MATERIAL: Beut, 6:4-9; Luke 2:51,52; Eph. 5:22-25; 6:1-4, GOLDEN TEXT: "Be ye kind one to an other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Eph. 4:32). Outline and Exposition I. T h e F o u n d a t io n o f t h e I d e a l s ( D e u t . 6:4-9) The foundation involves a proper conception of ;he Person of God (v. j “ You see this Bible?” said the j j chief man of a heathen village ! i to a missionary. “ A few months J i ago men trembled before me; [ | boys ran to hide when they saw j ! me; no one dared to stand be- | ! fore me. Today my arm is brok- j J en, my heart is wax; I am a I | little lamb; the children look on j | me in wonder. This Book has ] | done it a ll.” 4). He is “one” God, not many, al though in Him is a plurality of Per sons. Unlike the gods of the pagans, the God of Israel is a Triune God. Un like the pagan gods, He is life and truth; therefore He is able to impart life and truth to others (cf. Psa. 115:2- 9; 135:15-18). Moreover, the foui.dation involves a proper conception of the supremacy of God (v. 5). The Christian’s love must be “with the heart”—controlling the motives of life; “with the soul”—con trolling the desires of life; “with the might”—controlling the actions of life. This love implies dealing with a per sonal God. Sentiment may be felt for a place or thing, but love can only be exercised upon living persons. Furthermore, the f o u n d a t i o n in volves a proper conception of the management of God (vs. 6-9). This government is outlined in the Word of God, which should control the heart where the purpose of life is found; the mind, where guidance is needed; the hand, where industry operates; the home, where domestic life is maintained; and the gates, where social life finds expression.
