The impending closure of three Scotia- bank branches in the region is drawing mixed reviews. Branches in St-Isidore, Maxville and Avonmore are to be shut in the fall as the bank consolidates operations in a new branch in Casselman. Some customers are pleased because many already shop in Casselman. “It is a natural destination for many people,” says Karine Abgrall, BNS vice-president for the St. Lawrence Valley district. However, many other people are not at all pleased with the moves. In fact, a drive to save theMaxville branch is being organized by community leaders. Customers have been advised that infor- mation meetings will be held February 12 in St-Isidore, February 13 in Avonmore and February 14 in Maxville. There will be no jobs lost as all of the approximately 15 employees at the three branches will be able to transfer to the Cas- selman outlet, says Abgrall. She describes the decision as an invest- ment in the community. The new Cassel- man location will open more hours than any other financial institution in the vil- lage, offering service in the evenings and Saturdays, she relates. The new branch is set to open in Sep- tember.
Customers will meet next week to discuss the fate of the Sco- tiabank branches in St-Isidore (left) and Maxville.
