Liftango is a ridesharing app exclusively for our University of Tasmania staff and students. You can offer to be a driver or request rides, the app will search for a compatible match with similar commute times and locations. Support is provided throughout the entire pick up and drop off process with the added flexibility to choose your rides on the days and times best suited to you.    As a Liftango driver you can park for free in the designated Liftango parking spaces  on-campus, the Liftango app will show you which designated Liftango parking spaces are available.

What is Liftango? Liftango is a ridesharing app exclusively for our University of Tasmania staff and students. You can offer to be a driver or request rides, the app will search for a compatible match with similar commute times and locations. As a Liftango driver you can park for free in the designated Liftango parking spaces on-campus, the Liftango app will show you which designated Liftango parking spaces are available. What are the benefits of ridesharing? Reduced carbon footprint Ridesharing significantly reduces the amount of emissions in the air. If you rideshare frequently you could cut your yearly emissions number in half, or even more. Cost savings By ridesharing you can save money on parking, petrol and vehicle maintenance. Reduced traffic congestion Ridesharing takes vehicles off the road, which means less congested roads. Decreased stress Not having to fight traffic and saving money on petrol and parking can significantly decrease the amount of daily stress you have. Less wear and tear on your car By ridesharing, you put less kilometers on your car therefore decreasing wear and tear each month.

How do I sign-up and use the Liftango app?

Download the app from Apple store or Google Play.

Sign-up using your UTAS email address and create a profile.

Load up rides. The app will match drivers and riders.

Accept the match provided by the app (both the driver and rider have the ability to accept matches). The in-built navigation function will use Google Maps to guide the driver to the pickup location.

What happens once I register and set up my profile? You are ready to rideshare! If you register as a driver your profile includes car registration number and an image of your car and car details. Then, when you’re ready to book a trip, put in the destination and times you will be traveling. Liftango will match you with a rider/driver and you can choose to accept or decline. If you accept, the app will use Google Maps to guide the driver to the rider’s pick-up location. You can also send a private ride request to a friend or colleague through the app.

What happens when I find a match? The Liftango app doesn’t stop at just matching drivers and riders, the app will support you through the pickup and drop-off process as well. For drivers, it will provide directions to their rider’s nominated pick up point. For riders, the app will let them know that their driver is on their way. Private rides Want to rideshare with a friend or colleague? With the Liftango app, you can guarantee a private ride with your friends or colleagues! Just send through a private ride request.

Is the Liftango app open to the public? No, the Liftango app is exclusively for our University of Tasmania staff and students. Are there any fees or costs for rides? The Liftango app is free for users, there are no costs associated with using the app. As a driver, what’s in it for me? If you pick up a rider, you can park for free in the designated Liftango parking spaces on-campus. These parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis – the Liftango app will show you which designated spaces are available.

As a Rider What happens if I get stuck without a ride home? It’s always best to arrange your ride home in advance and make sure you have a Plan B. If your rideshare home is canceled and you are left without options, Liftango will make sure you have a ride home. Just contact Liftango via the app or phone and they will arrange a safe lift home for you. Can I rideshare one-way? Yes. You can seek roundtrip rides or one-way. For example, if it suits you better to only rideshare with Liftango in the morning and get another way home or vice versa, you can customise your trip. Ridesharing is flexible and completely up to you. Do I have to rideshare every day? You can rideshare as much or as little as you want. All you need to do is load up the times and dates you want to rideshare into the app. Paying a driver for fuel If you rideshare with a certain driver regularly and come to an arrangement yourselves, then that’s great. The Liftango Rideshare app provides the means to find and organise ridesharing between drivers and riders and takes no part in setting prices or helping money change hands. What happens if I need to cancel my trip? If you need to, you can easily cancel a trip request at any time before you are matched. If you’ve already been matched and you need to cancel, it’s best to be respectful to your rider and do so as early as possible through the app. If you cancel a trip after you are matched, you will not be able to reschedule that ride. If you don’t want to cancel, but you need to adjust plans slightly, we encourage you to reach out to your rider/s to see if they might be able to accommodate you. If I have an incident or dispute with another rider or driver, how do we resolve it? Successful rideshare trips rely on good communication, goodwill, honesty and trust. Is using Liftango safe? Yes. Safety is our top priority, which is why the Liftango app is for exclusive use by University of Tasmania staff and students. How is the privacy of drivers and riders protected? Your privacy is important and Liftango make every effort to protect your personal privacy while also providing sufficient information to allow rideshare matches. When you sign-up to the Liftango app as part of our exclusive University of Tasmania group your name, gender and trip details are available to other users within the group, when you post (driver) or request (rider) a ride. Is my vehicle insurance affected by ridesharing? No. Using the Liftango app is no different than driving a friend or a colleague to work, dinner or anywhere else you might normally share a ride. Refuelling hire vehicles used to rideshare As per Avis’ standard procedure for hire vehicles, the vehicle hirer must return the vehicle fully refuelled. Ridesharing and Sustainability Liftango offers staff and students the opportunity to positively contribute towards our Sustainability Strategy.

As a Driver Please ensure the following; • you are at least 18 years of age; • you have a current and valid driver’s license; • you carry all insurance required by law in order to operate a motor vehicle in the state/county/country where your vehicle is registered; • you carry liability insurance that covers bodily injury to all occupants of your vehicle; • you have no record of convictions for serious driving offenses; • you are medically fit to act as a Driver; • you have volunteered to be a driver and have not been designated by a group or company as a driver and receive no compensation from a group or company for driving; you are an independent party participating, with others, in a voluntary, not for profit, ridesharing arrangement • you follow prescribed manufacturer preventative and maintenance standards for the vehicle(s) you use
