Illustrated Poetry: One Shout

One shout, Over the cold and driving rain, Dead men walking. One shout, Drowning in mud and fear, Guns raising. One shout, To end many virtuous souls, Climbing the dyke. One shout, Men down like dominoes, No one left. Not one shout, The floor littered with guns Going to be repeated again

The Blue Cornflower of Dulwich College

Centaurea Cyanus is commonly known as the blue cornflower. It is an annually flowering plant that can grow as tall as 35 inches. In folklore, they were worn by young men in love, and if the flower faded then it was a sign that his love was not returned. Also the blue cornflower has been the national flower of Estonia since 1968, one of the national symbols of Germany and it is also the school flower of Winchester. It was the favourite flower of John F Kennedy and was even placed in the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. However, more importantly, it is the school flower of Dulwich College because it was the Founder, Edward Alleyn’s favourite flower. Furthermore, it is known to be worn by Lindsay Marriot- a character in the book Farewell My Lovely , by Raymond Chandler. Recently Raymond Chandler received a Blue Plaque on the house where he lived in recognition of his excellent service to English literature. Zee Asheber, 8S
