In Appreciation of Mom!
Sunday, May 13, is a big day. It’s Mother’s Day! With about 83 million moms around the country, there is a lot of love and appreciation to spread around. To everyone here at Synergy, moms mean everything. In the health care world, for instance, the role of moms cannot be overstated. Women make up about 80 percent of all health care workers in the U.S. On top of that, women and moms tend to make the primary health care decisions for their families. Over the last year at Synergy alone, six members of our team became mothers, and four of our team members were already moms! That’s pretty amazing. And mothers are incredibly important to our patients, too. They make up about 65 percent of all the patients we see. Plus, moms often play a vital role in our patients’ recovery process, providing comfort, support, and encouragement — besides making sure their husbands, significant others, or kids arrive on time for their appointments. There’s a good reason why so many moms come to Synergy. We put a lot of focus on our women’s health programs. This includes offering physical therapy that specifically targets pelvic floor muscles. We see a lot of pregnant women who experience pregnancy-related pain, as well as discomfort after childbirth. Our

targeted therapy helps strengthen these muscles often affected by pregnancy and childbirth and reduces pain. On the personal side of things, I want to shout out my mother, Kathy Porter. Not only is she a wonderful mom, but she’s a wonderful grandma, too! She’s always there when John and I need help with our kids. She’s there after school, on weekends, and whenever we call her. But most importantly, to our kids’ delight, she’s there to spoil them. John’s mother, June Boyd, has been a huge part of our lives, as well. She, along with John’s father, were instrumental in the formation of Synergy PT — literally and figuratively. Synergy’s formation was very much a family affair. So, to our mothers and all mothers out there, happy Mother’s Day! We appreciate the sacrifices you have made for us over the years and continue to make daily.
If you haven’t already sent love to the mothers in your life, well, you better get on it! Of course, you don’t need a day in May to give gratitude to your mom, spouse, grandma, sister, cousin, and every other mom in your life. You should do that all the time — hint, hint. As May comes to a close, we also observe Memorial Day, and we want to take time to reflect on all the service members who dedicated their lives to our country over the years. So many people have served our nation and given their lives in the name of freedom. Again, have a happy Mother’s Day and a great Memorial Day!
