BCI-BROCHURE

In 1995, a vision was born that would forever change the landscape of the construction and industrial services industry in the Gulf Coast. That vision was Bayou City Industrial (BCI), founded by Jeff and Nancy Bearden to address a gap in the market for mid-sized projects that required both specialized expertise and a hands- on, self-performing approach. Nearly three decades later, BCI is a powerhouse in the industry, known for its technical versatility, dedication to safety, and long-standing client relationships. As Aaron Shermer, President of BCI, explains, the company's founding was all about "meeting the market where it had needs." At the time, there weren’t many companies capable of handling projects in the $100,000 to $20 million range—a niche that BCI filled. This focus gave them an edge, allowing them to handle every scope of work for our customers from civil construction to electrical and instrumentation installation. "Our ability to self-perform multiple crafts is one of the main things that sets us apart," says Shermer. BCI’s broad range of services includes site clearing, structural steel fabrication, pipe fabrication, and much more, all performed by their own employees. "When we GC the work, we GC all of it," Shermer adds, highlighting the company’s ability to execute entire projects without needing multiple contractors.

The success of Bayou City Industrial isn’t just rooted in their ability to perform a wide range of tasks—it’s built on their relationships. As Vice President of BCI, Preston Bearden recounts, in the early days, BCI made a commitment to focus on repeat business, cultivating lasting relationships with clients. A Strong Foundation in Relationships and Repeat Business

Today, many of those partnerships have lasted over 25 years. "Our DNA has been building repeat business," says Bearden. "We have customers we've been doing repeat business with for 25 of the 30 years we’ve been in business, and that’s a testament to doing the right thing time after time." According to Bearden, these relationships have become so strong that clients often bring BCI along as they move between companies. "The leaders at company X might be the leaders at company Y in five years. They get a better job offer, they go somewhere else, and they bring us along with them.

That's how we've sustained ourselves this long," he explains. This seamless continuation of partnerships across industries and projects has made BCI a trusted name throughout the Gulf Coast and beyond. Building a Reputation on Innovation While strong relationships have kept BCI thriving, innovation has kept them growing. Bearden recalls a particularly challenging bayou rehabilitation project that required driving piles into the ground between two major operational plants. Traditional pile- driving methods would have disrupted the plants’ operations, but BCI found an innovative solution. "We found a machine that is one of only two in the world, got it scheduled, and the plants never even knew we were there working," Bearden shares. This kind of out-of-the-box thinking has earned BCI a reputation for not only delivering results but doing so in a way that minimizes disruption to their clients' ongoing operations. BCI’s latest innovative leap comes in the form of an expansion to their pipe fabrication facility. As part of their strategic growth, the company has invested heavily in automation technology that no other company in the Gulf Coast is using. "We’ve invested heavily in automation that triples throughput through a shop, which gets pipe to the field quicker, gets projects over quicker, and improves pricing and quality," says Bearden, clearly excited about the future potential of this facility.

"Our commitment to not only keeping our employees safe but demanding that our clients provide us with safe workspaces before we get there sets us apart," Shermer emphasizes. In an industry where accidents can be devastating, BCI makes safety a priority on every job site. Their safety-first approach extends to their subcontractors, who are held to the same high standards as BCI’s own team. BCI’s quality control measures are similarly stringent, backed by numerous certifications from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Board. These accreditations allow BCI to fabricate and repair pressure vessels, fabricate and install power piping, and perform other specialized tasks where a Code stamp is required.

The new equipment allows for an automated welding process that produces higher quality work at a faster rate. "It’s an automated welding process that welds open-butt pipe welds from root pass to cap pass nonstop," he explains. This level of automation has allowed BCI to significantly reduce project timelines while maintaining an unmatched standard of quality. Safety and Quality: The Cornerstones of BCI’s Success While innovation drives BCI’s operations forward, safety remains the bedrock of the company’s success.

they have also built strong partnerships with subcontractors who specialize in areas like scaffolding, painting, and insulation—referred to as "soft crafts" in the industry. These partnerships are crucial for BCI’s success in completing complex, large-scale projects. "We hold them to the same expectations that we hold our own superintendents," Shermer explains. "They are an extension of us when we're in our clients' facilities." BCI’s approach to subcontractors mirrors their approach to employees and clients —clear communication, trust, and a commitment to excellence. This philosophy has helped BCI forge strong alliances in the industrial space, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality.

But for Shermer, the real credit goes to the field superintendents who ensure that these standards are upheld on every project. "Without them, our quality would never get demonstrated," Shermer says, underscoring the importance of the team on the ground. "They are the number one reason our quality is what it is because of their care for the company and their love for the company to go out and produce an excellent product." Strategic Partnerships

A Legacy of Excellence

Bayou City Industrial stands as a testament to what can be achieved through passion, innovation, and a relentless commitment to doing the right thing—both for clients and employees. "If our customers will innovate it, we’ll figure out how to build it," Shermer says. And with their track record of success, there’s no doubt that BCI will continue to lead the industry, setting new standards for safety, quality, and excellence in every project they undertake.

A Future Fueled by Growth and Dedication As Bayou City Industrial approaches its 30th anniversary, the company shows no signs of slowing down. "We’re definitely always in grow mode," says Bearden. With their recent investments in automation and the expansion of their pipe fabrication facility, BCI is well-positioned to take on new challenges in industries ranging from petrochemicals to semiconductors. "We're excited to see where our customers will take us," Shermer says, noting that many of BCI’s clients are on the cutting edge of technology in sectors like clean air and carbon capture. At the core of BCI’s future is the same commitment to relationships, safety, and quality that has fueled the company’s growth for nearly three decades. "As long as we don’t forget about our two customers— our employees and our clients—we’ll continue to succeed," Shermer affirms. For Bayou City Industrial, the road ahead is clear: innovate, grow, and continue building on the strong foundation laid by years of dedication and strategic partnerships.

"If our customers will innovate it, we’ll figure out how to build it."
