Anchor Sustainability Report 2022-2023

We’re always developing new ways of supporting residents to improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing. Over the past year, we’ve held our Anchor Tea campaign, which started in March 2022 as part of our celebrations for National Nutrition and Hydration Week. Residents took part in tea tasting events, resulting in a new blend of breakfast tea which is now served in our care homes. Our care homes provide high quality, healthy and nutritious food to those that are most vulnerable and who might otherwise be unable to prepare it for themselves. All menus are created in consultation with residents to ensure they meet their preferences and cultural, religious and dietary needs. In some circumstances, we have produced personalised menus specific to one resident to meet a cultural and/or religious need. Our Anchor Games initiative took place in July 2022 to mark the Commonwealth Games, and included themed Zest workouts, sports day competitions, ‘opening ceremony’ parties and sports reminiscence sessions.

Zest case study

Harry lives at The Firs care home in Felixstowe and has a neurological condition that affects his movement. After consulting with our National Wellbeing Manager and explaining his goals, we were able to create a personal physical activity plan and work with Harry to improve his mobility and confidence, helping him to achieve his main goal spending less time in his chair. The range of movements progressed over a six-week period and on the third session, Harry was even able to walk with the help of his frame and a care assistant to the door of his room. It was clear Harry exceeded his initial goal, so he set a new target of walking to the end of the hallway. He has since met that goal too and can now walk to the communal lounge with assistance and enjoy a cup of tea with other residents! Over the weeks of working with the care team and having a personalised Zest physical activity plan, Harry has grown in confidence and is enjoying the independence of being more mobile.
