300 we do not feed upon th e Babe of Bethle hem^ nor on the wonder-working Na- zarene. Feeding on the example of Christ is but a dead effort of th e flesh. The Life of Jesus is hot our life. One m igh t, have the most wonderful con ception Of His life and feast upon it, and yet obtain no life through it. There m ight be inspiration in it to live a b etter life, but it would be a hopeless task to obtain new life by feeding upon inspiration. The U nitarians have the life of Jesus upon which to feed, but th a t does not' give them a new nature. . We feed upon the broken body and shed blood of our Lord. He became life for us by yielding up His life as a grain of wheat. (John 12:24.) Under th e old dispensation, blood as a food was prohibited. ‘(Lev. 3 :17 ; 7: 26, 27; Deut. 12:23-27; 15:23; Lev. 17: 10.) Under th e new dispensation it is commanded, v. 53; “ V e rily , v e r i ly , I s a y u n to y o u , E x c e p t y e e a t t h e fle s h o f t h e S o n o f M a n a n d d r i n k h is b lo o d , y e h a v e n o lif e I n y o n .” ' We live upon His redemptive work. His flesh and blood are our life. H ere in is .the secret of our abiding in Jesus and abiding for fruit. (John . 15:5.) Here P au l abode, know ing only Jesus Christ and Him crucified. (1 Cor. 2:2.) We must discern th e Lord’s body. We m ust feed upon Him. “He th a t eateth my flesh and d rinketh my blood, liveth in me and I in him .” (v. 54.) Eating is a continual exercise. Jesus had no life ap a rt from His F ath er. So we have no life ap a rt from Jesus Christ. He abides in th e F a th e r; we abide in Him. (v. 57; also 1 Cor. 11:23, 24.) “ F o r I h a v e re c e iv e d o f t h e L o r d t h a t w h ic h a ls o I d e liv e r e d u n to y o n . .T h a t th e L o r d J e s u s , t h e s a m e n i g h t i n w h ic h h e w a s b e tr a y e d , t o o k b r e a d ; A n d w h e n h e h a d g iv e n t h a n k s , h e b r a k e It, a n d s a id , T a k e , e a t ; t h i s Is m y b o d y w h ic h Is b r o k e n f o r y o n ; t h i s d o I n r e m e m b r a n c e o f m e .” Notice in th is verse it is “My bojly” ; “My blood” ; “Remembrance of m e” ; “ Of my death.” His flesh and His blood become, then, the food of the be-

THE K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S liever, “My flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is d rink indeed.” (v. 55.) We show the. Lord’s death by our life. He is th e Son— th e outshining of th e F a th e r’s glory. We are sons and we should show fo rth H is glory and cause th e world to say, “These are th e sons of God.” The soul is never so well hedged in from doubt, tem ptation and fear as when standing in the presence of th e Cross where His life ebbed out. In every sorrow and in every tria l go to the Cross, look into His face, hold fellow ship w ith Him. “Do th is in remem brance of me.” As often as possible, we should thu s remember Him. (2) DISCOURSE TO THE DISCI PLES, vs. 59.71..;; In vs. 60-65 we have the sifting pro cess. Some murmured and said, “Who can h ear it? ” H ere we have th e offense of th e cross. It is the critical tim e; a testing tim e; such as always comes to those who are only th e seeming follow ers of Christ. Men stagger a t the proposition. “How1 can He give us H is flesh to e a t? ” Be lief is the first essential. F a ith is a work, but it is separate from works. F aith is the foundation of all good works. F aith secures to the believer th e resu lt of God’s work in our behalf. These people followed Him, heard Him, bu t did not commit themselves to Him; did not re st in Him. T h eir ques tion was th e everlasting “How?” of unbelief. Daily food becomes flesh and blood. We ea t our food; it is distributed to, and assim ilated by, all p arts of our body The blood flows through th e arteries, the eye is illum ined, th e hands, feet, bones, sinews, are nourished. So, when we feed upon the flesji of the Son of Man, our spiritual n atu res are nourished.

We must feed upon Him fo r o u r selves. The disciples d istribu ted th e ‘bread to the people, and they ate. We have th e Bread of Life. We must feed READ RESULTS OF PRACTICAL WORK BY
