He was assured th a t they did, it is said, P residen t W. R. H arp er being th e spokesman. Professor Osgood then showed P aine’s ‘Age of Reason’, the book he read them from! They begged him not to let the incident get into the newspapers.” Church of This World Kansas City, Mo., papers carry the advertisem ent of a church called “The Church of This W orld.” John Emerson Roberts is the pastor. A bulletin from this church says: “We believe in one world a t a time— in reason, experience and science as the only guides. We be lieve th a t honest doubt honestly ex pressed is b etter th an dishonest belief, however professed. We believe th a t the increasing knowledge of the world is the only revelation.” The Apostle P aul hit the mark when he said: “The world by wisdom knows not God.” Don’t Count on th e Turkhen The American Poultry Jou rn al tells of the hybrids which have been called Turkhens, produced th is year in Cali fornia from a cross of a tu rkey gobbler and a Rhode Island Red hen. The hy brids have some of the characteristics of the turkey, such as a long; bare neck, a head sim ilar to a tu rk ey ’s, and the/ same habits in going about and picking seeds and insects here and there over the range. The editor is wise enough to add th a t “ the theory of evolution would inculcate the belief th a t one spe cies descends from another, and th a t there is a gradual development from th e lowest forms of life up through fish to fowls, to animals, to man. T hat proposition cannot be dem onstrated by th e breeder, fo r th e different species are absolutely fixed and lim ited and do no t cross w ith one ano th er an d produce fer tile offspring. The breeder finds each species as a distinct and separate crea tion, and evolution becomes a.sp e cu la tive theory. No one need anticipate th a t in th e Turkhen California has a new creation.”
