King's Business - 1922-01

THE K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S mermann took us from place to place and told of the great work, we could but cry, like Elisha’s servant of old, “ Alas, how shall I do it; the city is surround ed by chariots and a great host!” We remember, however, that our sufficiency is of God, that the time is short, and the need great, indeed. How we praise Him that His strength is made perfect in weakness! A Wide Opportunity. From the hill tops of San Pedro, steaming gracefully into the harbor, may be seen vessels, not only from our own country, but from South America, China, India, Japan, the Philippines and other lands. Hundreds of men, women and children on board the various ves sels, in the short stop at the harbor, will have perhaps the opportunity cf a life time, that of hearing about and responding to the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. With the realization of the work in which Brother Zimmermann has been so wonderfully blessed we praise God for our opportunity to' be used of Him in the harbor work. Witnessing on Japanese Liner. During this first month of our work, God’s blessing has been graciously mani fested in answered prayer and response of souls to the message. One ship, carry ing about three hundred Japanese pas sengers enroute to South America, was visited. The Institute launch carried the worker, accompanied by a Japan ese student, out to the great vessel. Once on board an inquiring crowd stood by and watched the two of us make preparations for a meeting which re quired the moving of benches from mess tables to deck. The greatest difficulty was found in getting the first few to be seated to listen to the mes sage, but, after that, the audience soon grew to about one hundred men, women, and children. The appeal of the Japanese student’s message, spoken in their native tongue, soon could be read in the faces. When the invita tion was given, two responded in a definite way, and in a testimony meet ing later several witnessed to their ac ceptance of the Lord Jesus in San Fran cisco the preceding day. A distribu tion of Gospels, tracts and various kinds of literature in the Japanese language was made. As the vessel steamed out of the harbor we could but praise God for the gracious privilege that had been ours. May God help you to realize, dear

start within a very few days. Careful cal culation determined the fact that to cover excess baggage, meals, part of the ticket and various other items, one hun dred and twenty-five dollars would be needed. The young man was told to be on his knees in prayer with some other student at the time we presented the need to the class. That afternoon there was to be a session of the conference following the class, and so we said, “Now we do nor want to disturb the following meeting, so at the close of this class will you please come to the back of the room, and deposit your gifts in the basket.” The teacher took her stand behind a great square column which hid her com pletely from view. There the Bible Class members followed, elbowing each other as if to press to a bargain counter. One basket was soon filled and then a second. The little lady who had been standing by, waiting to make out a check for anything that lacked out of the one hundred and twenty-five dol lars, was made one of the committee to count the money. Soon these ladies returned with smiles that could not be repressed to report that two hundred and thirty-two dollars had been drop ped into the baskets. Then the young man arrived, at our request, to hear the results! He has tened to say, “ We really prayed for one hundred and thirty dollars because it seemed I would need the extra five do'.- lars!” Then we quoted, “ Exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think,” and showed him the overflow ing baskets and told him the result. Then came such a sweet season of thanking the Father, and the young man went to his room wiping away the happy grateful tears from his eyes. When the Holy Spirit moves upon people to give, one even dares to dis miss the congregation and hide at the rear of the room to take up an offering to the Lord! .¿¡e. ate» 2A5» “The Lord hath done (treat th in gs for ust w hereof w e are glad ."
