Tooth Preparation: A New Twist to An Old Story Samer Abi Nader BSc, DMD, MSc, FRCDC (prosthodontist)

The course is intended to provide the general dentist with an approach that can help improve and secure a successful restorative outcome, specifically when facing challenging clinical situations. The impact that our restorations may have on the surrounding tissues will be discussed as well as the indispensable strategies required to obtain a flawless integration. This is highly contingent on designing the appropriate contours in order to avoid the negative outcomes, specifically the famous “red line around my crown”. The course will provide an overview of the most common faults encountered when preparing anterior and posterior teeth. Learning Objectives: • Review basic concepts of tooth preparation for extra-coronal coverage • Introduce current concepts, discuss their clinical implications and review the impact of crown design on soft-tissue healing and maturation • Discuss soft-tissue management around crown abutments, present common complications and discuss their management strategies Course Code: T050PLW Room: 711 – South Building Time: 9:00 – 11:30 am Continuous 2:00 – 4:30 pm Type: Lecture/Workshop 20 Participants Ticketed Paid Audience: Dentist RCDSO QA Program: Category 2 (6 + 1 Bonus CE Credits) Fee + HST: $563.87 ($499 + $64.87) This is a full-day continuous course, and you must attend the morning course and afternoon course to receive a full 6 credits. Dr. Samer Abi Nader is a dental specialist in prosthodontics and an Associate professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at McGill University. He is currently the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Dental Education) in the Faculty of Dentistry at McGill University. Dr. Nader is actively involved in updating and improving the implant as well as the restorative curriculum. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He attended McGill University, where he earned a degree in physiology before completing his dental degree at the University of Montreal. After a one- year multidisciplinary residency program at the Jewish General Hospital, Dr. Nader completed his training in prosthodontics at the University of Montreal.
