Building Wellness and Resilience into the Workplace

Leila Turner BA, CTDP

Tresa Jules M Ed.

With technological advancements, evolving workplaces, social media overload and the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, workplace demands can outweigh our resources, leading to a diminished human connectivity and a loss of purposefulness for many. What often took a community is now dependent on the many roles placed on one individual. Now, more than ever, there is a demand for learning mental health strategies and developing mindsets that ward off the negative consequences of stress. Stress is not going anywhere, but how we view it and how we respond to it are the keys to healthy lives. Resilience protects our mental well-being while strengthening our ability to adapt to demands in the workplace. There is a plethora of information available on workplace stress, occupational satisfaction, personal happiness and resilience; however, what is not always identified are the practical tools that can be implemented into one’s daily life to increase • Understanding the relationship between mental health and workplace stress and burnout, and defining the meaning of personal resilience and identify constructs that positively affect mental well-being • Applying positive psychological practices and strategies that foster self-awareness and emotional regulation • Identifying foundational factors that nourish recovery resilience while at work.
