ASM22 Final Program

Hands-on Implant Placement and Restoration for the Missing Single Tooth and Edentulous Mandible

Lesley David DDS, Dip. OMFS, FRCD(C)

John Zarb BA, DDS, MSc (PROSTHO), FRCD(C)

The morning course will be dedicated to the placement of dental implants in the partially edentulous maxilla. Osteotomy preparation will be performed in both the anterior and posterior zones of the maxilla. In addition, participants will walk through the steps involved in restoring the implants placed with a cemented and screw-retained provisional restoration. The merits of a closed- and open-tray final impression will be discussed, contrasted and completed. A broad scope of definitive restoration options will be presented, as determined by the ultimate position of the implant. The afternoon course will focus on the implant prosthodontic management of the edentulous mandible. Two implants will be placed in an edentulous model to retain a mandibular overdenture. Locator selection will be reviewed and performed, followed by conversion around an existing denture to an implant-retained overdenture. The steps involved with fabricating a mandibular implant-retained overdenture will also be reviewed. Learning Objectives: • Review the key aspects of implant prosthodontic principles and osteotomy preparation • Review tips and tricks to facilitate success and avoid complications • Review the steps involved with fabricating a mandibular implant- retained overdenture
