Ultrasonic Clinical Coaching: Level Up Your Use of Curved Left and Rights

This course will focus on the unique characteristics of curved ultrasonic instruments and guide clinicians on a path whereby improved access to biofilm can lead to better treatment outcomes. Via a specialized camera, technique demonstrations will enhance this session as participants use curved instruments, mannequins, typodonts and live magnetostrictive ultrasonic units through quick-paced activities. Learning Objectives: • Discuss the rational for curved ultrasonic instruments over straight ultrasonic instruments and describe a visual cue for knowing where to use which curved tip • Demonstrate how to adapt a variety of ultrasonic tip surfaces of curved tips for improved access to biofilm and better ergonomics • Demonstrate effective curved instrument adaptation in furcations, concavities and the CEJ in all four quadrants of the oral cavity. Use a curved ultrasonic instrument to completely remove simulated biofilm from an artificial furcation

Dani Botbyl is a leading authority in ultrasonic education and has served as the National Clinical Educator with Dentsply Sirona Canada for 21 years. Ms. Botbyl has developed and presented evidence-based educational programs to dental hygiene students, pre- and post-doctoral dental students, faculty and practicing clinicians nationally and internationally. She has published numerous articles in industry and peer-reviewed journals. Her current research interests include educational preparedness of dental hygienists for ultrasonic instrumentation with results guiding the implementation of her teaching methods globally.
