The Big Picture – Prespectives of ID Specialists on AMR. Leveraging Our Experience With COVID-19 to Tackling the Antimicrobial Resistance Crisis. How the Impact of Antibiotics On The Environment & Health and the Concept of “One Health” Informs High Level Global and National Initiatives The COVID-19 pandemic is teaching us hard lessons about preparedness, coordinated, strong crisis management, the impacts of social disparity on health, the profound impacts of societal polarization, and the central role of social media in public engagement. Mitigation of antimicrobial resistance requires a whole-of-society approach involving all health care professions, all levels of society/government, all regions – one that bridges science, social science/humanities, across the OneHealth (human, animal, environmental) spectrum. Learning Objectives: • To examine the evolution of the pandemic response as a modern example of a complex, worldwide health crisis, illustrating parallels between the “wicked problems” of international pandemic control and antimicrobial resistance control • To review examples of evidence based COVID and AMR science communication and community engagement strategies, to inform personal and professional approaches to AMR • To understand the impact of antimicrobial resistance on humans, animals and the environment, and to identify potential opportunities to improve antimicrobial use in dentistry
