The Smithsonian is coming to Mount Vernon! First Street Community Center (221 1st St NE, Mount Vernon) Friday, April 20, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Stop by for Friends Club Day with the Smithsonian, featuring the exhibit: Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America . Local exhibits will accompany the Smithsonian display, sharing stories of local heroes, game winning shots, and many others. The city of Mount Vernon was specially selected to host this exhibit, and the event will appeal to sports fanatics, history buffs, and Iowans of all backgrounds. The exhibit will be available for viewing March 18-April 30. Those who attend on April 20 are encouraged to register to win a gift basket from Hills Bank. No reservation necessary. Sip and Sample with Fireside Winery Hills Bank in Iowa City (1401 S Gilbert St) Tuesday, April 24, 6:30 p.m.

Guests are invited to sample a variety of wines from Fireside Winery while enjoying friendly company and conversation. Community Book Discussion Cole Library, second floor (600 1st St, Mount Vernon) Thursday, April 26, 12:00-1:00 p.m.

This annual Community Book Talk will feature several great books with speakers Cathy Boggs, Public Librarian/Director, and Greg Cotton, College Librarian, leading a discussion of several literary works. If you’re in need of a reading recommendation, this event can be a great way to get started! Hills Bank will provide lunch. Space is limited.
