ed no time sharing her love of music with the families of Hawkesbury through her Family Concert Series. Everyone in Vankleek Hill knows Phil Ar- ber, who plays a key role in helping the community spirit grow and flourish. Found- er of the Arbor Gallery 20 years ago, Arber has been a tireless promoter of visual art- ists and art education. He has helped run the May Show for the last 25 years. He also helps stage the Festival of Flavours and parades. He also participated in the resto- ration of the Higginson Tower, located on land donated by Arber. Patrick Golding has contributed through his commitment to war veterans and the Alexandria Legion. A retired member of the Ottawa Police Force, he is well known for reviving the Alexandria Legion and for lead- ing it in its numerous community contribu- tions. Betty McCormick, a tireless volunteer from the Maxville area, helps at the Maxville Manor and is a key organizer of the Glen- garry Highland Games. She has used her fund-raising skills to help ensure the suc- cess of events such as the Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame. Horace Nixon is recognized as an icon of agriculture in the Vankleek Hill region. He has exhibited cattle at fairs for 75 years and has not missed a Vankleek Hill Agricultural Fair since first attending as a young boy.

Former Vankleek Hill fire chief Bruce Bar- ton, a fire fighter for about 45 years, has left his mark on his hometown. A leader during the 1998 Ice Storm, eight years later, when a gas explosion levelled a neighbour’s house and damaged several others including his own, “Bruce responded as he only knew how: by leading the evacuation efforts.” His outstanding contribution to the fire depart- ment through fundraising and training was recognized in 2007 when the station was re- named the “Bruce Barton Fire Hall.” Former M.P.P. and cabinet minister Noble

Villeneuve was first elected in 1983. He was a highly respected agriculture minis- ter. “It is no simple task to win the respect of farmers, but this he did. His first-hand experience as a local farmer made him truly appreciative of the challenges facing Eastern Ontario farmers and he was instru- mental in helping them to withstand re- cover from devastating effects of the great Ice Storm. Noble has earned the admira- tion of people throughout our region.” Bill Connors, of Chute-à-Blondeau, per- sonifies“a quiet force, hard at work. He has never sought recognition, but his selfless commitment to serving and fund-raising for a number of community churches makes him a force to be reckoned with. Bill is generous with his time and talents, hav- ing volunteered his piano-playing skills to churches, nursing homes and music groups over the last 50 years. He is an im- portant participant in organizing and en- suring the success of community events. “ Wanda Kaluzny began her performing career early as organist and choir director at the Holy Cross Parish in Montréal at the age of 11. By age 20, she had founded the Mon- tréal Chamber Orchestra. She has been saluted for her unwavering commitment to the musical development of young art- ists and her willingness to pioneer unique soloists, composers and repertoire. She now calls Glengarry-Prescott-Rus- sell her home, and upon her arrival, wast-
