He has served as a staff officer, Office of the Chief, Reserve Compo- nent, Department of the Army, the Pentagon, and as

a Force Analyst, Officer of the Assistant Vice Chief of Staff, Army. His overseas duty includes Commander, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, and concurrently Community Commander, Aschaffenburg. He served as Chief of Staff, 9th Infan- try Division. After being promoted to Brigadier General, he was assigned as the Assistant Division Commander, 1st Armored Division, and concurrently Community Commander, Nurnberg Military Com- munity. He assumed the duties of Chief of Staff, First United States Army, on August 3, 1976. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Purple Heart. He has also been awarded the
