Seattle Conference is Designed by Hospitality Trainers for Hospitality Trainers (and the new schedule is built for your convenience)

We recognize that it can be hard to get away from work to focus on your own professional development. In Seattle, we’ve changed the traditional winter conference schedule to help. The competency workshops are now condensed over the course of two full days, Sunday and Monday. You can get IN, get OUT, and get BACK to work quickly with new skills and new connections for impactful change. The Welcome Reception and First Time Attendee meeting will still be on Saturday, and optional MasterClasses will be held on Tuesday. We can not wait to see you there! Registration is open.

PresidenTalks Clear and Focused Strategy to Fuel Our Membership and Serve CHART It’s the fourth quarter and, like me, I’m sure many of you are in full planning mode with your company’s 2023 strategic plan. It is no different for us at CHART. In September, your CHART Board of Directors met in Minneapolis for our first in-person board meeting and to kick off planning for this Board term. We spent two days bonding as a new Board, talking through ways of working, recapping the previous year’s accomplishments, and starting our strategic planning. The first step of any planning session is to ensure you know who you are planning for – your target. After looking at various membership and conference attendee statistics, we narrowed the target of our goals down to three simple questions:

Rachel Richal

• How can we get a hospitality trainer to attend a CHART conference for the first time? • How can we get first time conference attendee to come back to a second conference? • How can we get first year member to renew their membership for a second year?

The discussion continued with dialogue around how our members and conference attendees currently feel about CHART, with aspirational conversations around how we want them to feel about CHART. This exercise narrowed us to a short list of items “we must do” as a Board to serve and fuel our membership. As we plan activities and action items throughout the year these “we must dos” will serve as our guideline to ensure we are best achieving our target goals: How can we get a hospitality trainer to attend

How can we get first time conference attendee to come back to a second conference? • Facilitate strong networking connection opportunities at and after conferences that are targeted to our conference attendee needs. • Drive awareness of the variety of ways all members can leverage CHART involvement opportunities, and help connect individuals to the opportunities that suit their skillset and objectives. • Curate relevant, innovative, and applicable content designed to grow our attendees professionally, including quality breakout speakers, headliner keynotes, and opportunities to hear and share best practices.

How can we get first year member to renew their membership for a second year? • Create and promote the value of CHART membership by establishing and promoting member-exclusive events and resources that highlight the education and networking that can only come from CHART.

a CHART conference for the first time? • Establish and market two unique CHART conferences as the only go-to places for professional development for trainers within the hospitality industry. Showcase our foundation of being community-driven, sharing how our conferences provide the opportunity to network with people that get you, are willing to share with you, and that you can “steal shamelessly” from. • Create a value proposition for companies that make the conference so valuable for trainers within the industry, that they can't afford not to figure out a way to have participants from their company attend. Engage member-endorsed vendor partners that provide solutions to our attendee’s goals.

We look forward to the year ahead, and please feel free to reach out to any of the board members with any questions or ideas!
