THE FEAR OF BEING ALONE/ by Dr. Ralph L. Keiper

H ave you ever worried about be- I ing alone? It may be that we are alone in making a decision, or alone in being excluded from a social gathering. Such things may have caused you to worry and to be anx ious. Whenever we suffer tensions of this nature, we can never radiate the spiritual beauty of the Lord Jesus. TOO LITTLE? Said a precious little laddie. To his father one bright day, "M a y I give myself to Jesus, Let Him wash my sins away?" "Oh, my son, you are too little, Wait until you older grow, Bigger folks, 'tis true, do need Him; Little folks are safe, you know." Said the father to his laddie As the storm was coming on, "Are the sheep all safely sheltered, Safe within the fold, my son?" All the big ones are my father, But the lambs, I let them go, For I didn't think it mattered, Little ones are safe, you know? Oh, my brother! Oh, my sister! Have you too made that mistake? Little hearts that now are yielding May be hardened then — too late. Ere the evil days come nigh them, "Let the children come to Me, And forbid them not" said Jesus, "For of such my Realm shall be." The good news for every believer is that he never need be alone as far as God is concerned. The Word of God is always with us! to reveal God’s truth for each need in our lives. There may come a time when you will need wisdom simply because there are great decisions you are facing. In James 1 :5 we read, “If

any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liber ally, and upbraideth not: and it shall be given him.” Whenever we come to an experience in life and know not which way to turn we have the high privilege as Christians of coming to God and asking Him to show us the way we should go. God promises to do two things for us concerning this subject. He wants to answer us liberally and then to let us know that He will never bring up the past before us. It may be you have literally made a mess out of your life. You are wondering if some of the marks of sin can be erased. God anticipated your need and gives ex pression to it in Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” God wants to talk it over together. He knows your prob lems and difficulties. He has diagnosed your spiritual condition perfectly. Isaiah speaks of two colors: bright red and dark scarlet or crimson. Could he possibly have in mind the young sinner and the older person who has been battered by the world for so many years. Hear the Word of God as it speaks not in judgment but in love, “Come now, let us talk it over together.” Sometimes when young children get into wrong they are afraid to go to their parents and confess the wrong. They are afraid of punishment. Us ually, however, a loving parent will talk things over. Certainly this is what God does. He wants to be our Saviour, not our Judge. You may have a hard heart but God can make it as soft as wool. He alone can change you from a crimson sinner into a white-wooled saint. 28
