The Province of Ontario encourages them to make noise when moving through heavily wooded areas, especially if they are near a stream or waterfall. Singing, whistling or talking will alert bears to human presence. Humans are also encou- raged to keep their eyes and ears open for signs of a bear like tracks, claw marks on trees or droppings. – Francis Racine ROAD CULVERT COSTSHARE The United Counties of Prescott- Russell (UCPR) and the City of Ottawa can agree to share the expense of culvert improvement on boundary roads. UCPR council approved a recommendation from its public works committee for agreements with Ottawa on culvert replacement and repaving on shared boundary roads. The first agreement is to share the $120,000 cost for design of six culverts on several boundary roads in 2020. The other agreement is for cost-sharing $1,020,000 for recons- truction of those culverts in 2021, on condition that both Ottawa and the UCPR can include the work in their 2021 budget plans. – Gregg Chamberlain PLANTAGENET RADAR SIGNS The United Counties of Prescott- Russell (UCPR) will install two radar speed control signs on County Road 9 in Plantagenet next year.
