Our Own Personal Way of Honoring Memorial Day
A Big Thanks to Ernest Flores and All Other Past, Present, and Future Soldiers
While official origins of Memorial Day vary, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, Major General John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30 as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the dead with flowers. It is believed that date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country. Since all of us at the firm plan to set aside some time this Memorial Day to honor the soldiers who sacrificed their lives to keep our country safe, I figured it’d be a great time to highlight a recent successful case where we were able to help former U.S. Army infantryman Ernest Flores. Ernest was honorably discharged, began work in the private sector and had planned to re-enlist to join the Air Force, but during his time away from service, he was in an automobile accident through no fault of his own.
jury in a second trial because we didn’t think the insurance company's refusal to take responsibility for this accident was warranted or justified under Georgia law. In the end, we were able to successfully settle this second portion of the case after the trial, and yes, the insurance
company rightly had to pay some of our fees. As a way to acknowledge the sacrifices Ernest and all the other men and women in the military before him have made, I plan to donate the money I receive for attorney’s fees to the Georgia National Cemetery to assist with their purchase of flowers to decorate soldiers’ graves this Memorial Day. Our team at Kevin Patrick Law looks forward to supporting Ernest as he re-enlists in the Air Force. He starts off this enlistment knowing that the country he is fighting for has a solid civil justice system he can believe in. Thank you to Ernest and to all of the members of the military for your allegiance and strength to your country and your fellow countrymen. We are forever grateful for all your hard work and sacrifices. Happy Memorial Day.
