MORE IMPORTANT BOOKS ON PROPHET IC QUESTIONS. W ILE THE CHRIST RETURN? By J. S tu art Holden, M.A., D.D. Flem ing H. Revell Co., n e t 50 cents. This is an excellent book to p u t in th e hands especially of those who are inquiring about th e Second Coming of Christ. It avoids th e controversial spirit, and yet it states clearly th e fundam ental teach ings of th e Word of God upon th is g reat question, and states them in such a way th a t the tru th is realized in its bearings upon our own daily conduct. There are only 88 pages in the book. It is divided into four chapters: I. Is Christ Com-, ing Again? II. Where are th e Signs? III. W hat is to Take Place? IY. Who are Ready? We have noted b u t two or th ree sentences in th e whole book th a t we could wish had been om itted or differently phrased. The book is gotten up in such a way as to make it a desir able g ift book. “AFTER THIS,” or The Church, the Kingdom, and th e Glory. By Philip Mauro. F lem ing H. Revell Co., 12 mo. cloth, 190 pages, $1.00. This is a book w orthy of reading and careful study. I t presents a point of view in many respects radically different from th a t held by many p resen t day P rem illenar- ians. There are a num ber of things in th e book w ith which we cannot a t all agree, and th e au th o r is as positive abou t some of th e things th a t he does no t prove as he is abou t those th a t he does clearly prove. Occasionally an in te rp re tatio n of which he is quite con fident will no t bear careful exam ination, and some in terp retation s are fanciful. Nevertheless w ith th e m ain contention of th e book we are in h earty agreement. It is th e position th a t we have held for many years, in fact have always held
since we gave any considerable atten tion to th e doctrine of our Lord’s Re tu rn . The read er needs to be on his guard ag ain st swallowing everything because he is convinced about many things. It is certainly a book th a t every one should read who is interested in th e question of th e relation of the Church to “ th e K ingdom .” HID MOSES KNOW? By C. E. P u t nam . The Bible In stitu te Colportage Association. 25 cents net. This little booklet of 40 pages will be helpful to many Bible students. P residen t B lanch a r d , says of it: “ I have h eard Bible Teachers for more th a n fifty years. I th ink I have listened to or read, a t least in p art, from almost all the g reat teach ers of th e English speaking world. It is not easy in these days for me to read th a t which is new and true. Mr. P u t nam has given me th is unusual priv ilege.” Coming from th is source this is indeed high praise. To us th e praise seems a little extravagant. Knowing how widely D r.1B lanchard is read on such subjects, we are surprised th a t he should have found much th a t was really new to him in th is pamphlet. We have read it very carefully and do no t recall any th ing in it th a t is absolutely new. B u t it will be new to many, and w hat will not be new to some read ers is pu t in an excellent way. I t shows how Moses could know about th e creation, th e Garden of Eden, th e tem ptation, etc. The book is no t only a good one for the Bible teach er to read, b u t also a good one to p u t in th e hands of th e skeptic. The section on th e reliability of “ Bible M athematics” is very in te rest ing and profitable, i The section on “ Ingersol vs. Moses Considered” is also especially in teresting and profitable.
