IV. School and Student Safety

Mandatory Reporting Requirements

The State of California requires that all educational and child care employees sign a statement that the employee has knowledge of and will comply with the mandate that those employees report known or suspected instances of child abuse. Child abuse or neglect is defined as behavior or acts resulting in imminent risk of serious harm, death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse, or exploitation of a child (usually a person under the age of 18, but a younger age may be specified in cases not involving sexual abuse) by a parent or caretaker who is responsible for the child’s welfare. Sexual abuse is defined as employment, use, persuasion, inducement, enticement, or coercion of any child to engage in, or to assist any other person to engage in, any sexually explicit conduct or any simulation of such conduct for the purpose of producing any visual depiction of such conduct; or rape, and in cases of caretaker or inter-familial relationships, statutory rape, molestation, prostitution, or other form of sexual exploitation of children, or incest with children. To report suspected child abuse, neglect, or sexual abuse, or to seek assistance in complying with this policy, an employee should contact the school counselor, the appropriate division director, or the Headmaster. Employees who, for any reason, are unable to report suspected abuse or neglect to one of these individuals may directly contact Child Protective Services. CSB will make every effort to maintain the confidential nature of any report made to Child Protective Services. CSB does not confirm or publicize the efforts made by any of its employees to contact Child Protective Services.

Student Illness and Accidents

Staff should notify the division director and the front desk if a student has an accident of any kind. For purposes of communication and student safety, the teacher present at the time of any accident serious enough to warrant calling a parent should complete an accident report immediately. Report forms are available from the front office. The teacher must also inform the Division Director immediately so that the parent may be contacted.
