Cathedral School for Boys Faculty and Staff Handbook 2017-18

Through the use of goal setting between Division Directors and teachers and verbal and written feedback given during meetings, teachers are evaluated based upon: (1) their knowledge of the curriculum, (2) their instructional methodology, (3) the classroom environment and management, (4) their interaction with parents, (5) their interaction with colleagues, and (6) their overall professional attitude and growth.

Sabbatical Program

Cathedral School funds summer sabbaticals for purposes of professional reflection, rejuvenation, and growth. This program applies to full-time teaching faculty completing their seventh year of employment and returning to work at CSB for the following year. Eligible faculty are asked to express their intention to request a sabbatical by submitting a written proposal to the Headmaster by November 1 st of their seventh year of employment.

The proposal should include the following information:

• A brief description (two to three paragraphs) of the proposed sabbatical. • An explanation of how the sabbatical corresponds with the faculty member’s area of professional work and how the sabbatical will enhance the faculty member’s curricular knowledge or classroom practice. • A cost estimate of the sabbatical. (Costs can include lodging, travel and transportation, food, associated professional costs and fees, tuition, etc.)

Recipients may be asked to make a presentation of their sabbatical to the faculty and/or write an article about their sabbatical for the Red & Gold .

Depending upon circumstances, eligible faculty may request that their sabbatical be delayed until the summer after their eighth year of employment, though faculty would be expected to return to work at CSB for the following year. Because eligibility to take a sabbatical is conditioned upon an employee returning from sabbatical to work at CSB the following year, a faculty member who accepts sabbatical funding but fails to return to work at CSB the following year may be expected to refund the school for the cost of the sabbatical.
