Solving for connected, community urban market-rate and workforce living, and exploring potential for uninhibitedly modern, boldly textured mid-rise density to co-exist seamlessly in its Seattle historic central district environs gave the Jackson 532- unit project an edge over strong competitors in this category. In sync with our inclusionary-zoning times, this community integrates 107 units reserved for working households whose incomes fall between 65% to 90% of area median incomes, a “missing middle” offering. Signature connectivity, wayfinding, and nuanced gathering areas cultivate a community look and feel, while a palette of colors, fractal patterning, and material references tie structure to the soul of the place in the city. Judges were taken in with the design’s intentionality, its cadence of small zones to expansive sweep of inclusiveness and intimacy, throughout the circulatory exterior and in interior spaces, from the mailroom to the Skyline Lounge, which pay homage to the neighborhood’s artistic contributions to the city. It’s about belonging, and what that means downtown.
