In the Marin County city of Fairfax, Victory Village offers homes for 54 low-income, 62-and-up adults, 11 of home may otherwise have been homeless. The 52,000 square foot earth-tone woodland-lodge style structure terraces into a sloping 2-acre wooded valley site, a gracious testament to how harmoniously function – high-energy, low water use, and sustainable, purpose-based community living and activity – can drive design. While open courtyards and community garden beds activate connection outside, the interior space, with community rooms, mellow entry lobbies, and sun-lit corridors full of seating, is also set up for resident engagement.
