School board trustees are the communi- ties’ representative on the board, advocating for the interests of the students and parents of the schools in their region, ensuring school policies benefit constituents, and communicating board decisions back to the community. Corina Parisien is returning to the UCDSB for her second term as a trustee. Parisien is focused on the UCDSB’s work on equity, inclusion and wellbeing. The return to school after pandemic restrictions has been difficult, and creating an environment where students
and staff feel comfortable and ready to learn is important to Parisien. As a bilingual mem- ber of the board, she is also looking forward UPSFWJFXJOHBOEJNQSPWJOHUIF&OHMJTITDIPPM board’s French immersion program. Pierre Tessier, also returning for a second UFSNPOUIFCPBSEPGUIF$&1&0 JTDPOUJOVJOH his promotion and lobbying for a French QVCMJDIJHITDIPPMJO3PDLMBOE8JUIUIF fast growth of Clarence-Rockland, Tessier believes prioritizing additional public schools in the region will be a necessity in the not- so-distant future. $VSSFOU$4%$&0QSFTJEFOUBOE$MBSFODF Rockland representative Jean Lemay will be returning for his 37th year term on the board.
Lemay started as school board trustee back in 1985 for the village of Clarence up to amalgamation in 1998 when he became trustee for the newly formed municipality of Clarence-Rockland. Lemay is looking forward to further committing himself to the mis- TJPOPGUIF$4%$&0BOEQSPWJEJOHTUVEFOUT with an in-depth education within a healthy, altruistic, inclusive, and innovative school community. After 22 years of serving the community BTBUSVTUFFGPSUIF$%4#&0 4VF8JMTPO returns to her role as board vice-president "4QFDJBM&EVDBUJPO$IBJSXJMMDPOUJOVFUP CFBQSJNBSZGPDVTGPS8JMTPO FOTVSJOHBMM students have access to a quality education.
In the upcoming municipal elections, voters will not get to vote for the trustees for all four school boards covering Clarence-Rockland. Current school board trustees are all running unopposed and will be taking their seats around the board table via acclamation.
