The Promising Future of Allentown’s West End Theater District ALLENTOWN, PA - About 40 members and guests of CREW Lehigh Valley enjoyed a lunchtime presentation about initiatives underway throughout Allentown’s West End Theatre District. The event, held in June at Civic Theater’s 514 Theater on 19th Street, featured a presentation by Michael Hefele, director of planning for Allentown, on area projects including the 19th Street Streetscape and the planned improvements to the gateway entrance of the adjacent Allentown Fair Grounds. Initiatives have been spurred by the West End Alliance, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization of neighbors, merchants and other stakeholders dedicated to the continued emergence this walkable urban neighborhood. A 100% volunteer group, the West End Alliance advocates smart growth throughout the neighborhood, promoting the West End as an entertainment destination, ideal business venue and prime residential area. Forty businesses have joined forces for collaborative marketing events such as Third Thursday in the Theatre District and special celebrations like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Oktoberfest.
