3. Strengthening and Restoring Proper Joint Biomechanics Weakness causes the shoulder to move incorrectly which worsens the tear. The shoulder and the scapula (the shoulder- blade) must work in a very specific rhythm in order for pain-free function. The use of theraband, balls, manual resistance and even weight bearing activity can significantly advance shoulder stability and strength. If needed, the therapist may use sport tape to support the shoulder joint thus allowing you to feel the correct shoulder alignment.
1. Reduce Pain Pain from a rotator cuff tear can be from the tendons, the joint capsule, or from a bursa that is nearby. We have many modalities that we can use to reduce pain including ice, ultrasound and electrical stimulation. Pain will also be reduced with the right exercise routine. We also instruct you in helpful positioning tips that help to reduce pain when sleeping, driving or sitting.
