THE DEAN A Message From
DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
A REFLECTION ON FIVE YEARS
BUILDING LEADERS FOR A CHANGING INDUSTRY
On behalf of the Michael J. Coles College of Busi- ness, it is a privilege to celebrate the five-year anni - versary of Kennesaw State University’s Hospitality Management program. What began in Fall 2020 as a bold vision has quick- ly become a vibrant and respected community of dedicated students, expert faculty, successful alum - ni, and important business and community part - ners. Launched at a time when the entire hospitality in - dustry’s future seemed in question amidst a global pandemic, in just five years, the program has grown into a source of industry-ready talent shaped by innovation, experiential learning, and meaningful partnerships. The success of KSU’s Hospitality Management program is not only illustrated by enrollment growth, but by the quality of educa - tion, the strength of industry relationships, and the achievements of our students and alumni. This milestone is a testament to collaboration. Our experienced faculty bring industry expertise into the classroom. Our partners open their doors and invest in the next generation of hospitality leaders. And our students greet every opportunity with professionalism, curiosity, and leadership. As you explore this commemorative issue, you will see how far the program has come and why its fu - ture is so promising. We are proud of what has been built in five short years and are even more excited about what lies ahead. The hospitality industry is built on exceeding expectations, and KSU’s pro - gram has done exactly that. Thank you for being part of this journey and for believing in the power of hospitality education to shape leaders and create lasting impact. Robin Cheramie Dean, Coles College of Business
Five years ago, we launched the Hos - pitality Management B.B.A. program with a clear purpose: to develop en - terprising hospitality leaders ground - ed in operational excellence and equipped with the strategic insight to shape the future of the industry. However, nobody could have predict - ed that a global pandemic would lead to the largest drop in global tourism since the 1950s. Despite the chal- lenge of building a program around an industry in peril, Kennesaw State University knew that demand would return, and we were going to be ready when it did. The results speak for themselves. Since its inception, the program has experienced remarkable momen- tum, including a 529% increase in enrollment. More importantly, our students graduate prepared. Every student gains real-world experience through internships or part-time roles, and nearly all have employ - ment secured by the time they receive their diploma. This outcome reflects a student-centered approach rooted in relevance, rigor, and industry part - nership.
The post-pandemic hospitality indus - try has changed. Contactless customer interactions, increased operational costs, and staffing issues are common. To meet these changes, our curricu- lum remains agile and market-driv- en. New electives and experiential opportunities are continuously in - troduced to reflect evolving industry needs, from luxury hospitality and asset management to events and glob- al operations. Strategic partnerships locally and internationally ensure students are exposed to the breadth of the hospitality ecosystem while building meaningful professional re- lationships. At the heart of the program is a com- mitment to ethical leadership, hands- on learning, and career readiness. Our students are not only prepared to enter the workforce, but to create positive change within their organi - zations and communities. This milestone belongs to many. To our faculty, students, alumni, part - ners, and supporters, thank you for your dedication and belief in what we are building together. The foundation is strong, the momentum is real, and the next chapter promises even great- er opportunity. Here’s to the future of hospitality leadership at Kennesaw State Univer - sity.

LAUNCH & VISION
BUILDING WITH PURPOSE
Kennesaw State University launched the Hospitality Management pro - gram with a clear and ambitious vi - sion: to build a business-first hospi - tality degree grounded in leadership, experiential learning, and industry relevance. From the outset, the program was designed to respond to a changing hospitality landscape. Industry leaders called for graduates who understood operations and strategy, service and finance, leadership, and adaptability. The program’s curriculum and experi - ential model were intentionally built to meet those expectations.
This vision emphasized three guiding principles: Industry alignment, ensuring cur - riculum and experiences reflected real-world expectations. Experiential learning, placing students in professional environ- ments early and often. Leadership development, prepar- ing graduates to advance quickly and lead with integrity.
Rather than grow for growth’s sake, the program focused on building the right foundation. Partnerships were cultivated deliberately. Coursework was designed to evolve. Student en - gagement was embedded into the cul - ture from day one. Five years later, that vision contin - ues to guide the program’s trajectory. Growth has followed purpose, and outcomes reflect intention. What be - gan as a bold idea has become a thriv- ing academic and industry-connected community with momentum that continues to build.
ENROLLMENT GROWTH
MOMENTUM WITH INTENTION
Since its launch in Fall 2020, the Hospitality Management program has experienced sustained and significant enrollment growth. In just five years, enrollment has increased by more than 500 percent, reflecting strong student interest and confidence in a business- focused hospitality education. This growth is not accidental. It is the result of intentional program design, industry alignment, and a curriculum that resonates with stu - dents seeking both immediate career opportunity and long-term advance - ment. As awareness of the program has grown, so too has its appeal to students from diverse backgrounds who are drawn to hospitality as a dynamic, people-centered business.
Enrollment growth has also been supported by experiential learning opportunities and visible career out- comes. Students recognize the val - ue of gaining real-world experience while earning their degree, and fam - ilies see a clear return on investment through internships, job placement, and career readiness. Rather than expanding rapidly with - out structure, the program has grown deliberately, ensuring that academic quality, student support, and industry engagement scale alongside enroll- ment. This approach has allowed the program to build momentum while preserving the personal - ized experience that defines hos - pitality education at Kennesaw State University.

THE ‘LADDER’ FRAMEWORK
GUIDING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
A defining element of the program’s academic design is the LADDER framework, a structured approach to professional development that guides students from their first year through graduation. LADDER stands for Leadership development, Acquisition of talent, Development of careers, Direct career placement, Early-career start, and Recruitment. LADDER intentionally integrates leadership training, applied learning, and career readiness milestones into the student experience. Rather than treating professional growth as op - tional or extracurricular, the frame- work ensures students build skills, confidence, and industry awareness progressively throughout the pro - gram.
Through LADDER, students engage in experiential learning, profes- sional preparation, mentorship, and reflection aligned to their stage of development. This ap- proach creates clarity for students, consistency across experi - ences, and stronger outcomes at grad- uation. By embedding professional readiness directly into the academic journey, the program ensures students graduate not only with academic knowledge, but with the skills and self-assurance needed to succeed in a demanding, people-driven industry. The program is actively pursuing accreditation through the Accredi- tation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration, further
affirming its commitment to academ - ic quality and continuous improve - ment. Ongoing curriculum review, informed by industry input, ensures course content remains current, rig- orous, and relevant. Through this combination of academ- ic rigor, experiential learning, and structured professional development, the Hospitality Management program prepares students not only to enter the workforce, but to advance quickly and lead effectively.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE & Innovation
“The Hospitality Management Program equipped me with practical, real-world skills that I consistently applied in my career. The program gave me the confidence to step into the workforce knowing I was prepared to succeed and make an immediate impact.”
DESIGNED FOR A DYNAMIC INDUSTRY
Caroline Kantoris, Class of 2023, HR Office Manager at StimLabs
The Hospitality Management program is built on a strong academic founda- tion designed to prepare students for the complexity and pace of today’s hospitality industry. The curriculum integrates core business disciplines with hospitality-specific coursework, ensuring graduates understand both operational execution and strategic decision-making.
Students complete a comprehensive sequence of courses spanning ac- counting, finance, marketing, oper - ations, and management, alongside specialized hospitality coursework in lodging operations, food and beverage management, event plan- ning, and service leadership. This interdisciplinary approach reflects the reality of hospitality as a business and equips students with a broad, adaptable skill set.
Innovation is embedded throughout the curriculum. Experiential learn- ing components, including applied projects, simulations, and live case studies, place students in real-world scenarios where they must analyze information, make decisions, and lead teams. These experiences reinforce classroom concepts while developing confidence, judgment, and profes - sional fluency.

GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE
& International Partnerships
PREPARING LEADERS FOR A GLOBAL INDUSTRY
Hospitality is inherently global, and the Hospitality Manage - ment program reflects that reality through intentional inter - national engagement and partnerships. From its early years, the program has prioritized global exposure as an essential component of leadership development, preparing students to operate confidently in diverse markets and cultural contexts. A cornerstone of this effort is the program’s partnership with AURO University in Surat, India. Founded by H.P. Rama, co-founder of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), AURO University is known internationally for producing exceptional hospitality leaders. KSU signed an agreement with AURO in 2023 to develop student and faculty exchanges between both institutions. Through AURO, KSU students gain access to international academic and industry networks, collaborative learning op - portunities, and exposure to global best practices in hospitali- ty education and operations.
This partnership extends learning beyond borders, offering students insight into international service standards, opera- tional models, and leadership approaches. It also creates path - ways for faculty collaboration, joint initiatives, and future edu - cation abroad opportunities that deepen global understanding. Looking ahead, the Hospitality Management program plans to expand global engagement through targeted international experiences and partnerships in key hospitality markets, in - cluding the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. These regions offer diverse perspectives on tourism, resort management, luxury hospitality, and emerging service models. By embedding a global perspective into the academic and experiential framework, the program ensures graduates are prepared not only for domestic leadership roles, but for ca - reers in an interconnected hospitality industry where cultural awareness and adaptability are essential.

Student ENGAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP
WHERE LEADERS ARE MADE
HOSPITALITY LEADERSHIP CLUB
HOSPITALITY WEEK & CAMPUS ENGAGEMENT
Leadership at Kennesaw State Univer - sity’s Hospitality Management pro - gram is not theoretical. It is practiced daily through experiences that mirror the pace, complexity, and expecta - tions of the industry itself. From their earliest semesters, students are immersed in opportunities that extend well beyond the classroom. Professional organizations, nation- al competitions, campus events, and community outreach form a living laboratory where leadership, team - work, and service come to life. These experiences are central to the pro- gram’s mission and to the confidence graduates carry into their careers.
The Hospitality Leadership Club serves as the heartbeat of student life within the program. Founded in response to the strong early interest in the major, the organization has be- come a central hub for professional development, networking, and peer leadership. Through the club, students plan events, host industry speakers, and create meaningful connections across the hospitality community. Officers work closely with faculty, providing student insight that helps shape programming, events, and ex- periential learning opportunities. For many students, serving in the Hospitality Leadership Club is their first exposure to leadership roles that mirror real-world management responsibilities.
Each spring, the Hospitality Man - agement program hosts Hospitality Week, a signature celebration that brings hospitality to life across cam - pus. The week features executive pan - els, student showcases, cultural expe - riences, and networking events that highlight the breadth of the industry. Hospitality Week is more than a cel - ebration. It is a hands-on learning experience where students design, plan, and execute a multi-day event, gaining practical experience in event management, guest experience, and operations. Participation regularly extends beyond hospitality majors, drawing interest from across the uni - versity and reinforcing the program’s visibility and impact.
NATIONAL COMPETITIONS & RECOGNITION
COMMUNITY OUTREACH & TALENT DEVELOPMENT Leadership in hospitality includes service. Students actively participate in outreach efforts that support the next generation of hospitality profes - sionals, including involvement with high school hospitality programs and ProStart competitions. By mentoring younger students and representing KSU in recruitment ef - forts, hospitality majors strengthen the talent pipeline while reinforcing their own professional knowledge.
“There are so many events that were put on by the Hospitality Management Program that I was able to experience in my college career that have benefited me in my professional career...and i have made a numerous amount of connections that I will be able to use years down the road.” Camryn Ferranti, Class of 2023, Convention Services Office Manager - Omni Atlanta at Centennial Park
KSU hospitality students have distinguished themselves on the national stage. A defining moment came at the AAHOA Hotel Turn - around Collegiate Championship, where Kennesaw State students earned the People’s Choice Award for their innovative approach to solving real-world hospitality challenges. Competitions like this place stu- dents in high-pressure environments that demand strategic thinking, fi - nancial acumen, and collaboration. Participation reinforces classroom learning while building confidence and credibility with industry leaders.
LEADERSHIP BUILT THROUGH EXPERIENCE
Across clubs, competitions, events, and service, one theme is constant: students are not passive participants. Leadership is developed through experience, responsibility, and re - al-world application. These out-of-classroom experiences develop skills that cannot be taught through lectures alone. Communica- tion, judgment, adaptability, and con - fidence are shaped through practice, reflection, and responsibility.
100% of students gain real-world experience through internships or part time roles.

INDUSTRY PARTNERS & Strategic Initiatives
BUILT ALONGSIDE THE INDUSTRY
PARTNERSHIPS CREATING CAREER PATHWAYS
EXECUTIVE ENGAGEMENT & CORPORATE PRESENCE
From the beginning, the Hospitality Manage - ment program at Kennesaw State University has been shaped in close collaboration with the industry it serves. These partnerships are not transactional. They are enduring relationships built on shared goals, mutual investment, and a belief in developing future hospitality leaders through experience. Over five years, the program has cultivated a network of corporate partners, profession - al associations, and global institutions that actively engage with students through men - torship, internships, recruitment, and applied learning. The result is an ecosystem where education and industry advance together. Guidance from industry advisors has been instrumental to the program’s growth. An ad - visory group composed of senior executives across hospitality sectors provides insight that ensures curriculum remains relevant, for- ward-looking, and aligned with market needs. Advisory members regularly engage with stu - dents through guest lectures, site visits, and mentorship, offering firsthand perspectives into leadership, operations, and strategic decision-making. Their involvement has in- fluenced course development, experiential learning opportunities, and career pathways.
One of the program’s defining strengths is the intentional connection between education and employment. Strategic partnerships create clear pathways that introduce students to the industry early and support them through grad - uation and beyond. Through these relationships, students gain access to internships, part-time roles, man- agement training programs, and full-time po- sitions. Employers benefit from early access to motivated, well-prepared talent with a strong foundation in both hospitality operations and business strategy. On-campus engagement plays a key role in these outcomes. Recruitment days, executive networking events, and immersive learning experiences allow students and employers to build meaningful professional relationships long before graduation.
When industry leaders visit campus, students are given invaluable expo- sure to real-world leadership. Senior executives share candid insights into career progression, leadership chal- lenges, and the evolving hospitality landscape. Among the prominent hospitality brands participating in these valuable experiences are Omni Hotels and Re - sorts, Marriott Northwest and Spring Hill Suites, Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG), Aimbridge Hospitality, and more.
Corporate engagement days offer op - portunities for students to learn about organizations, interview for roles, and interact with leadership teams in a professional setting. These experienc- es frequently lead to internship offers and early career placements, reinforc - ing the program’s strong employment outcomes. Just as importantly, these interactions humanize leadership. Students see how successful profes - sionals lead teams, navigate complex- ity, and build careers grounded in service.
“Graduating from the Hospitality Management Program laid the groundwork for the rapid career growth I experienced shortly after... The knowledge, confidence, and professional skills I gained from the program positioned me to step up in a big way.”
Braidlyn Atkinson, Class of 2023, Complex Sales Manager, Downtown Atlanta

NEW OPPORTUNITIES & Industry Collaboration
ADVANCING LEADERSHIP & INCLUSION
The program is committed to foster- ing inclusive leadership across the hospitality industry. Partnerships focused on advancing women and underrepresented groups, including our relationship with the Costell Proj - ect, which invites female hospitality executives to speak with students, provide students with access to role models, mentorship, and leadership development opportunities. Through executive panels, work - shops, and networking sessions, stu - dents engage with leaders who share authentic career journeys and prac - tical guidance. These collaborations reinforce a culture where leadership is defined by integrity, collaboration, and impact.
EXTENDING LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Beyond direct employer partnerships, the Hos - pitality Management program engages with a broad network of professional associations, in - dustry organizations, and collaborative initia - tives that expand learning and influence across the hospitality ecosystem. Relationships with national and regional hos - pitality associations like the Georgia Hotel and Lodging Association, Georgia Restaurant Association, and AAHOA, connect students and faculty to industry dialogue, leadership development, and emerging trends. Through conferences, certifications, and collaborative programming, students gain exposure to pro- fessional standards and industry conversations that extend well beyond campus. The program also serves as a resource for pro- fessional development and corporate training. Customized training initiatives and executive engagement programs support industry part - ners while creating applied learning opportu - nities for students. These collaborations rein- force the program’s role as both an academic leader and a strategic industry partner. Together, these alliances strengthen the pro- gram’s visibility, relevance, and impact. They reflect a commitment to advancing hospitality education not only through degree programs, but through ongoing engagement with the in - dustry at large.
INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION
Hospitality is a global industry, and the program reflects that reality through international partnerships that expand student perspective and experience. Collaborative relation- ships with global institutions – like the agreement signed with AURO University –provide opportunities for education abroad, faculty exchange, and cross-cultural learning.
“The Hospitality industry is global by its very nature. Partnering with AURO ensures our students are prepared to compete in the global marketplace.”
RELATIONSHIPS THAT ENDURE
“The hands-on coursework, guidance from faculty, and opportunities through the Hospital- ity Leadership Club all shaped my ability to lead, network, and execute at a professional level… [HLC] helped sharpen the confidence and communication skills I now apply every day.”
Robin Cheramie, Dean
What
distinguishes
the
Hos -
pitality program is not the number of partner- ships, but the depth of them. Industry partners are collaborators in education, mentors to students, and champions of the program’s mission. These enduring relationships form the foundation for sustained growth, relevance, and impact. Management

equipped me with the ability to grow, take on leadership roles, and contribute meaningfully to my teams and the communities I serve.” Faith Affolder Winnie, Class of 2023, Director of Marketing & Community Engagement for 1885 Grill
At the heart of the Hospitality Man - agement program is a community defined by commitment, generosity, and shared purpose. Students, alumni, faculty, industry partners, and sup - porters have come together to build something meaningful in a remark- ably short period of time. This section celebrates the people who have shaped the program’s cul - ture and success, and whose contri - butions continue to open doors for future generations.
Keynote speakers inspire the students and upcoming graduates to make their mark on the industry. Guests have included William Pate, President and CEO of the Atlanta Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, and Stephanie Fischer, President and CEO of the Georgia Restaurant Association. The gala also serves as a moment of recognition. Awards honor individ - uals and organizations whose leader - ship, mentorship, and generosity have made a lasting impact on students and the program as a whole. Accep - tance speeches often focus less on accolades and more on relationships that brought honorees where they are, reinforcing the collaborative culture that defines hospitality.
The annual Hospitality Gala has quickly become a signature tradi - tion, bringing students, alumni, fac- ulty, and industry partners together to celebrate excellence and invest in the future. More than an elegant evening, the gala reflects the spirit of the program itself. Students play an active role in planning and executing the event, gaining hands-on experience in event management while delivering a pol - ished, professional experience for guests. From logistics to guest flow to presentation, the evening showcases what hospitality education looks like in action.
