executed a search warrant May 24 on house on County Road 15 in the village of Alfred in Alfred-Plantagenet Township. During a search of the premises, police seized 10 pounds of marijuana along with 79 small marijuana plants, 229 metham- phetamine tablets, and an undisclosed quantity of hashish, and rendered hashish oil. They also seized a digital scale and more than $2800 in cash.
The estimated street value of the drugs is about $100,000. A 61-year-old Alfred man is charged with production of marijuana, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the
purpose of trafficking, possession hashish, and possession of hashish oil. The man has been release on his own recognizance with conditions. He is due in provincial court in L’Orignal for first appear- ance on the charges on June 26.

Province looks at cost for police
L’ORIGNAL | The counties council has an answer at last to the question posed to the provincial government about policing costs. The government has a committee looking into the matter. In January this year the United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR) voted to support a resolution from the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley demanding the prov- ince review the costs for OPP policing ser- vice contracts with municipalities and also that the provincial government consider covering a portion of those contracts itself. Ontario Transportation is looking at three possible infrastructure projects for the Prescott-Russell region. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) received notice from the ministry that Dillon Consulting Ltd. is contracted to finish the design and environmental assess- ments on three infrastructure projects. The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services sent back a letter ex- plaining that it has received complaints from many municipalities about the cost of police services, both those that contract with the OPP and those who deal with oth- er police agencies. The ministry has since created a consult- ing committee on the future of police ser- vices. The committee has representatives from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, provincial police groups, and oth- ers. projects that the ministry is looking into for Eastern Ontario. The Limoges Road underpass located as part of Highway 417 between Russell Town- ship and The Nation municipality is one project. Another is the St-Eugène Road un- derpass, also part of the 417 system, locat- ed near East Hawkesbury. The third project is the Highway 34 culvert near Hawkesbury.
