Over the decades Chef Lepage has ex- plored almost every type of culinary experi- ence possible from working as food quality manager for federal base camps in the arc- tic, managing a school cafeteria, to running his own catering service. His work has led him across and up and down Canada and over the sea to France. He has earned re- nown as a wood-fire cooking specialist. He became executive chef at La Cuisine Jean-Bernard in 2009 and is a proud pro- moter of gastronomy and the use of local food products. He also cooks up sold-out culinary events such as Défi des chefs and many other fundraising exclusive meals.

PLANTAGENET | Jacques Lepage is the best in the kitchen no doubt about it. The executive chef at La Cuisine Jean- Bernard/La Binerie and owner of Jacques’ Cookhouse has received the Chef of the Year Award at the Canadian Culinary Fed- eration’s (CCF) National Conference June 1 in Edmonton, AB. “It’s a really nice recognition that I hum- bly and happily accept,”stated Chef Lepage. “I’ve always been passionate about cook- ing. Being a chef allowed me to travel and discover the world through so many ingre- dients and flavours, to constantly learn, to work with all kinds of people and to be a member of wonderful teams.” A professional chef for close to five de- cades now, Lepage began his career in 1968 while he was working as a firefighter in one of the northern work camps. When the camp cook passed away unexpectedly, Lepage stepped in and took on the chal- lenge of keeping 25 men fed and happy. In his case, he stepped out of the fire and into the frying pan as he left fighting forest fires behind and set out to conquer the culinary world. Chef Maurice St-Jacques at the Glen Lee Golf Club in Aylmer first took Lepage under his wing and showed him the wonders of the kitchen. Later Lepage moved to Châ- teau Montebello to work with the chef there and also learn the art behind bartend- ing. By 1974 at l’Hôtel Normandie in Orlé- ans, under Chef Sylvio Lavictoire’s direction, he was preparing banquets and individual meals for the dining room clientele. OTTAWA | Summer is fast approaching and already college and university are out looking for temporary work with some help from the federal government. Glengarry-Prescott-Russell Conservative MP Pierre Lemieux announced more than $160,000 approved under the Canada Sum- mer Jobs program for youth employment support in the riding.
