REEL IN THE BIG ONE IN WYOMING! 3 Fishing Bucket List Destinations

Have we sold you on visiting Wyoming yet? If you’re an angler, you may be asking where great fishing can be found, and perhaps that’s what is keeping you from visiting our frontier. This month, we asked our in-house fisherman, Kit West, to suggest some of his family’s favorite spots. Saratoga, WY — North Platte River The North Platte River is Wyoming’s most popular fishing destination and for good reason. This waterway is home to “4,000 catchable wild trout each mile,” according to Travel Wyoming. That means there is always a challenge and fun times to be had along the North Platte! In Saratoga, the best time to drop a line in the water is from April to mid-June, but don’t let that deter you from making the trek this year! With stunning views and many places to fish, there’s always a great adventure to be had along the North Platte in Saratoga, Wyoming. Encampment, WY — North Platte and Encampment Rivers If your sights are still set on trout, but you want to experience different fishing opportunities, too, be sure to check out Encampment, Wyoming.

It’s here that the Encampment River, which begins in Colorado, flows into the North Platte River. This is a great spot for fly fishing, and it can be a quiet destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle of everyday life. (Plus, that means there isn’t as much competition!) Jackson Hole, WY — Snake River The Snake River is one of the purest tributaries in the world, and its passage through Jackson Hole, Wyoming, makes Jackson Hole a fishing destination. Check out the river after the spring run-off, during mid- summer through October, when fishing is at its best. After angling, be sure to also visit Grand Teton National Park, where the Snake River weaves also through. (By the way, you can fish at Grand Teton National Park, too! Just remember that summer is one of the most popular times to visit national parks.) Before venturing to the Equality State for some fishing, brush up on fishing regulations through the Wyoming Game & Fish Department. You can find these online at WGFD.Wyo.gov .
