For many Star Wars fans all over the world, May 4 is a big day. It’s Star Wars Day, an unofficial holiday celebrating all things Star Wars. For the past several years, fans have been celebrating the day with all kinds of festivities. Some people dress up, others watch all the movies well into the night, and then there are those who simply wish each other, “May the fourth be with you.”
which meant I had all morning to do whatever my 5-year-old self wanted to do. And like any reasonable child of the ‘80s, I wanted to watch Star Wars. Thanks to the magic of the VCR, I could watch the adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han whenever I wanted. It was right around this time that the original Star Wars premiered on HBO. My parents recorded it, and I watched it to my heart’s content. Ever since those mornings before school, I’ve been hooked. From a young age, a lot of my Halloween costumes have been Star Wars-related. I even had an extensive Star Wars collection at one point. Though, now that I think about it, it seems my brother-in-law has managed to adopt most of that collection. I remember having the Millennium Falcon playset. That was a big deal. It didn’t get much better than swooshing the fastest ship in the galaxy around the house. I also had the Dagobah playset and, at times, Yoda’s home would become a home for our hamsters. My sister and I used to let our pet hamsters run around Yoda’s swamp, and I’m sure they had a blast. These days, Star Wars is still a part of my life, though I’m not watching it every day before work (but wouldn’t that make for a great day?) My daughter, who is 3 1/2, is now getting into Star Wars. She loves to watch Disney’s “Forces of Destiny” — several 3-minute animated shorts that focus on the female characters from the series. My daughter calls these shorts “the little Star Wars.” While many of the fans argue about which Star Wars film is the best, I enjoy them all. I’ve had nothing but fun watching each movie, donning costumes during Halloween, and now, introducing my daughter to the world of Star Wars. It’s been a fun journey, and I can’t wait to continue! –Matthew Konecky
Ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm and began making their own Star Wars films, the Disney parks have gone all out on the fourth. You can
go to Walt Disney World and partake in all kinds of Star- Wars-themed festivities — which I imagine will only get bigger when their Star-Wars- themed land officially opens next year. Star Wars holds a special place in my heart. I was 2 weeks old when the first Star Wars film premiered in 1977. Three years later, though, I had my first taste of the saga. I vaguely remember my parents bringing me to see “The Empire Strikes Back.” I can tell you the experience was a little too much for my younger self. I was not yet ready for the sights and sounds of a galaxy far, far away. Two years later, when I was 5, that all changed. As it happened, I attended kindergarten in the afternoons,

Not always. The state attorney has the burden to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you are guilty. Eye witness statements are valuable in proving a case, however it’s not the only way to prove a case against you. If you have made statements against your interest, the state could use this against you. Other circumstantial evidence can be used as well. In today’s world, everybody is a comparison shopper. With the advent of the internet, it takes all of about two seconds to find the best deal. You can go online and compare store prices between all the big-box retailers. If you’re going to buy a car, you can go to websites like Truecar.com that are in the business of telling you what others in your area paid for a car you’re looking at. For legal issues, however, it can be dangerous to comparison-shop. There’s no equivalent to Truecar.com for legal problems. Lastly, I want to say thank you to my Mom, Janet Konecky, who passed away this past January. She was a teacher, artist, and volunteer, but most of all, my Mom. Here is a little known fact: My Mom once played flute with Jimi Hendrix when she was in college on a chance meeting. As my sister said, my Mom never met a stranger. A lot of who I am I owe to her.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 zucchini
2 teaspoons fresh thyme Salt and pepper to taste
1 summer squash
1/2 medium red onion
Instructions
1. Cut zucchini into 1/4-inch-thick semicircles. Dice onion. 2. Heat a large skillet to medium high. Add olive oil, onion, and thyme. 3. Once onion is soft (about 2 minutes), add zucchini and squash. Season with
salt and pepper; cook 4–5 minutes until squash barely begins to caramelize.

3 OF HISTORY’S BRAVEST MOMS Mothers Shape the World Moms make the world go round. After running the gauntlet of childbirth, they raise and guide us throughout our lives, shouldering the tremendous burden and responsibility of motherhood. Mothers are in turn formidable, kind, powerful, gentle, wise, fierce, patient, supportive, empathetic, driven, and full of love. In honor of Mother’s Day, here are three historic moms who never stopped fighting for what they believed in. Before she escaped from New York slaveholder John Dumont, Sojourner Truth had at least three of her children sold away from her. When Dumont went back on his promise to emancipate Truth and her infant daughter in 1826, she took the girl and fled to an abolitionist Quaker family, but she was forced to leave her other daughter and her 5-year-old son, Peter, behind. Soon after, she learned that Peter had been illegally sold by Dumont to a slaveholder in Alabama, so she went to court and secured his safe return. It was the first successful case brought by a black woman against a white man in American history. Truth went on to become a prominent abolitionist and a speaker for women’s rights, delivering her famous impromptu speech, “Ain’t I a Woman?” in May of 1851. Sojourner Truth (1797–1883)

Irena Sendler (1910–2008)
When the Nazis invaded Warsaw in September of 1939, Irena Sendler, a 29-year- old social worker and mother of two, hatched a scheme to rescue Jewish children from the brutal ghettos. Along with many friends and colleagues, she smuggled out nearly 2,500 Jewish orphans, hiding infants on trams and garbage wagons and guiding kids through a labyrinth of secret passageways beneath the city.
Emmeline Pankhurst (1858–1928)
Despite being a wife and the mother of five children — two of whom died tragically young — Emmeline Pankhurst became one of the fiercest advocates for women’s suffrage in the late 19th century. After founding the Women’s Social and Political Union in 1903, she and her cohorts adopted an aggressive strategy to raise awareness for the issue; they began by buttonholing politicians and staging rallies, then progressed to vandalism, window smashing, and arson. She was instrumental in the movement. Pankhurst lived to see women gain the right to vote in 1928.
