Danette May's Lotus Journal - May 2020

Sarah embodies deep, deep wisdom. There’s a depth to her that is profound. She had to work through moments of intense transformation with me. In

It was a powerful journey I found myself on while Sarah was still a little girl. But the greatest thing we can do for our children and grandchildren is to be the most consciously aware of who we are at that moment. Do not underestimate the power of choosing your soul, of choosing to be grounded, of choosing to love yourself and be present in everything you love. Show up for yourself, and in turn, you will show up for your children, your grandchildren, and those you care for. You can change your child’s life by fully living, expressing, and harnessing your soul’s deepest calling. Today, my oldest daughter is one of my greatest teachers. At 17 years old, I see a deep understanding inside of her. She has seen my evolution and understands the struggle of poverty and the blessings of abundance. She’s watched this transformation I’ve been on, all the way from the brokenness to the empowerment and love, claiming the powers inside of her that only the road we traveled together could help her find.

return, she has wisdom I have yet to master and fully comprehend. She continues to inspire and amaze me every day. Her younger sister, my 12-year-old daughter, Samantha, has an infectious lightness to her. While I had Sarah before

starting my journey from rock bottom, Samantha joined us at a time when I was in my biggest

transformation. I was pushing and pursuing more of myself and my soul’s calling. She was born into a time of great spiritual growth, of great inner growth, and of great mindfulness. She has been blessed with a lifetime of healing foods and a mom who could make the conscious decision to grow, practice mindfulness, and be present in my soul’s true calling. So, where I see depth in Sarah, I see lightness in Samantha that shines onto everyone she meets. She has us laughing every day! She uses comedy as medicine, pinpointing exactly what the person she is talking to needs. She has an incredible ability to understand people’s needs, when they are dipping low and struggling in their woundedness. She lifts and heals with laughter. Samantha uses humor to lift people up, make others feel lighter, and bring out the happiness found deep in her soul. She shares this incredible gift with all of us. She understands how powerful and medicinal laughter is for our souls on the deepest level. It’s a profound calling that I’ve watched grow within her, lighting the path for others as she moves throughout her journey. Whether Sarah’s and Samantha’s souls were always this way, their nurture led them to this, or some combination of both, I believe they, like all children, possess a wisdom, strength, and heart connectedness that we adults cannot fully understand. Despite the pain, despite the mistakes parents make, despite the

struggles they may face, children are truly divine beings with deep wisdom coursing through their veins and cells. I am so grateful for the teachings my daughters have given me and continue to provide me. I am proud to be their mom and to have the opportunity to give them life, raise them, and encourage them to their soul’s truest callings. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, I have a challenge for you, sister. When you notice a child in your path, stop to let them know they are worthy. Use that nurturing instinct, that maternal nature, that motherly connection to let them know that you see them, that they have wisdom in them, and that they matter. Never underestimate the power of your words, being present for someone, and seeing them for the light they truly are.

I am so grateful for the teachings my daughters

Sarah has made the decision to be a good student and apply her mind in a positive way. She’s made the decision to be a good athlete, applying her physicality to push beyond the limits others set before her. She’s chosen good friends because she recognizes the strength and pull of the people she surrounds herself with. She understands that the choices she makes can set the trajectory of her life. have given me and continue to provide me. I am proud to be their mom, to have the opportunity to give them life, raise them, and encourage them to their soul’s truest calling.

That’s what it means to be a mother, and as a woman, you have that power.

Happy Mother’s Day,
