Students in grades 1 to 6 took part in the Rainbow Loom project at Mother Teresa Catholic School in Russell onWednesday, May 7. They created hundreds of bracelets that they are sending as gifts to children in Haiti. Local businesses Urban Country and Sweet Xpectations provided coupons for the supplies. Some of the students already did Rainbow Loomas a hobby. Gabrielle Dorémade and donated eight bracelets that day and has made about 300 bracelets in the past, which she sells and donates the money to Bricks for Schools.

The first Embrun Women’s Show, held at the Embrun community centre on April 26, was an unqualified success according to organisers. Vendors of products and services used by women (and sometimes men) filled the hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sophie Bourbonnais and her team, Carolle Bourbonnais, Joannie Marion, Chantal Arcand and Micheline Benoit, organized the event. They were inspired by the annual Friends for Life breakfast fundraiser for breast cancer awareness, and decided to run a follow-up event the day after. About 160 people attended and 43 kiosks were booked. Motivational speakers and demonstrations entertained throughout the day. Plans are already in the works for next year’s event.
