CDSBEO fishes for international student enrolment Starting this fall, the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) will launch an international student recruitment and support program. In a report to district trustees, Dave Chaplin, head of the interna- tional education program, explained that the district is already involved in student exchange programs where local students can spend a year outside of Canada attending classes abroad while families in the CDSBEO area host foreign exchange students spending a year at studies in Canada. Chaplin said the international education program will help bring «a global perspective into the classroom, promoting diversity and cross-cultural interac- tions, while building cultural awareness and international literacy.» The CDSBEO internatio- nal student promotion will develop a marke- ting strategy using videos, a website, and print brochures to promote the benefits, including English-language instruction and practice, of studying at CDSBEO schools. The district will also develop partnerships with existing organi- zations that can serve as recruiting agents and help with placement of international students with host families. – Gregg Chamberlain Summer student jobs program Local businesses and community groups looking to hire student summer help can apply now to the 2016 Canada Summer Jobs program for subsidies.The program provide subsidies worth up to half of the wages paid to student summer workers by eligible small businesses and public sector agencies, and 100 per cent for non-profit groups, who employ students full-time during the summer break. Le Concours de labour à Clarence-Rockland en 2019?

La Cité de Clarence-Rockland accueillera- t-elle le Concours international de labour en 2019? C’est ce que souhaitent certaines personnes, dont le conseiller Jean-Marc Lalonde. En effet, ce dernier a déjà eu quelques rencontres avec les organisateurs de l’évé- nement. Selon lui, ils semblent intéressés par la municipalité. Mais tenir un tel rassemblement de cinq jours, pouvant attirer jusqu’à 100 000 visiteurs, ne sera pas chose facile, selon le maire Guy Desjardins, car, pour accueillir l’événement, les hôtes doivent trouver un terrain d’au moins 1000 acres. La question est de savoir si les cultivateurs seront prêts à prêter leur terrain. « C’est beaucoup d’organisation, a indi- quéM. Desjardins. On a des terrains de 1000 acres, mais les cultivateurs ne pourront pas utiliser leur terre cette année-là. Et peut-être aussi pendant d’autres années, notamment à cause de la compaction de la terre. » Pour accueillir l’événement, la munici- palité doit aussi recruter entre 500 et 700 bénévoles, ce qui soulève aussi des doutes au sein du conseil. « Je pense que ce qui est épeurant, c’est le nombre de bénévoles requis, a poursuivi le maire.
