Richardson-Plano (TX) Alumni - The Guide Right Chapter

By Kevin Burnett

R ichardson-Plano (TX) Alumni Chapter (RPA) is known throughout the DFW area as the Guide Right Chapter. They pride themselves on their varied and impactful Guide Right programs. They have provided college scholar- ships to over 120 young people worth over $200,000 over the past 24 years. RPA mentors and guides students from middle school through college gradu- ation. The impact of the program is visible in the young men that have come through their Guide Right program, have now graduated college, and have careers. Ten of these young men are now mem-

bers of our Noble Klan. The college graduation rate for those who graduate from the program is over 96%. RPA has won 62 Grand Chapter and Province Guide Right Awards. Most notable of those awards are 2011 Grand Chapter Jay Crosby Award and the 2007 and 2013 Grand Chapter Bert V. Wad- kins Awards. All of RPA Guide Right programs are funded by the Richardson Plano Guide Right Foundation. “We do not ask for funds from the participants, we never want to turn a young person away due to monetary concerns and that includes college tours,” said Brother Kevin Burnett, the RPA Guide Right

Director.

The RPA program is varied and flexible. “We adjust the program to the needs of the students and the inter- ests of the Brothers. When students show an interest in creating music and videos and we had a mentor skilled in that area, we incorporated that into the program. When a Brother wanted a program more STEM focused, the Chapter provided that opportunity” said Brother Burnett. The program includes Kappa League Scholarships for college bound students who participated in Kappa League; for the past seven year, the Kappa League has given out school
